"controversial" verses عبد الله 02/11/17 (Sat) 11:38:07 25f6ad No.19805
let's have a discussion about controversial verses to give a bad image of islam by taking things out of context. ex., 30:66, Ayat al-Sayf, etc.
and how to handle responding to them.

note i don't think there is anything wrong with the verses, i'm just bad at explaining to people with zero education a plethora of information of the propaganda they fell victim to.

I tend to just let them make their own mistakes. If someone brings up a "controversial" verse, I ask them what they think it means. That generally leads them to context, where they'll discover it doesn't mean what they think it means.

jizya was widely practiced in places who's first significant contact with muslims was an arab invasion - am I wrong?

Eh, not really. Taxes were nothing new. They've been around for a long time. The idea of jizya was also nothing new. Romans, for example, taxed non-Italians.
