Certainly the promise of Allah is true. Let not then this present life deceive you.

"Allah is but one God. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs." [4:171]

Salaam y'all,

Ramadan's months away so what better way to prepare by starting a religious e-zine to preoccupy ourselves when it's not time for prayer or when we're done reading 'juz?

Ideally it'd be four issues, one a week and for each month we all send in contributions: Testimonials, reversion stories, tips for new fasters, recepies for fast breaking, stories of the companions (r.a.), interviews with Muslim artists, DIY projects like making your own prayer rugs, etc.

How does that sound with you guys?

cf0319 No.19365

Interesting idea, though I haven't heard the phrase "e-zine" since the 90s. But, still, if you want to set something up, I'm sure people here would participate if they so choose.

Why anti dunya?

Inshallah

Well, I know it's wrong to copy the ahl al-kitab, but there's this Eastern Orthodox zine called "Death to the World" that helped gain converts to that particular sect of modern Christianity. Figured it wouldn't hurt to go in that direction and help start producing content for Muslim youth that's actually by Muslim youth and not just copy and paste lectures.

Plus, Chapter 57, Verse 20 was on my mind when I had the idea,

"Know that this worldly life is no more than play and games, and boasting among you, and hoarding of money and children. It is like abundant rain that produces plants and pleases the disbelievers. But then the plants turn into useless hay, and are blown away by the wind. In the Hereafter there is either severe retribution, or forgiveness from GOD and approval. This worldly life is no more than a temporary illusion."

It's true this world does not have true value, but we need to enjoy it while we live in it. To be grateful of what Allah has given. A muslim should not be ""anti dunya" but should strive to get rid of human corruption upon it.

And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, "Strike with your staff the stone." And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. "Eat and drink from the provision of Allah , and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."- 2:60

Also the cover looks a bit dark in my opinion.

Ya Allah..I meant Dunya as in worldly but I get what you're saying

Honestly, the whole formatting is a holdover from when I made noise and industrial music, I still have a soft spot for that dark/dystopian aesthetic.

It is definitely a throwback. I was surprised, myself, as I didn't know anyone here was even close to my age. I graduated high school in 1990.

I'm actually 18, my man. Graduated HS July last year!

Got into Muslimgauze when I was younger, then I got into experimental music culture, took shahadah when I was 17 after talking to Muslim noise artists

Well that's even more impressive. It's good to know that the spirit of the 90s internet is still alive and kickin'.

Thanks bro, what are some zines you've read back in the day?

Phrack and OYB are the only ones I remember. It's been a long time.

I lurked on textfiles.com awhile back, might've read a few Phrack articles here and there.

Is 8chan close to any BBS's you've visited?

Nah. The chans are distinctively post 2000 web 2.0. The old BBSes were web 1.0 menus and ascii.

Pic related is what they looked like.

Jeeeez, it's funny thinking one day someone'll be talking about early internet in ten years and showing a screencap of the 8chan homepage

BBSes are web 0.1.

I didn't even know this existed lol

This was a loooong time ago when everything was dial-up. Sharing files and information was a lengthy and painstaking process of splitting rar files into small chunks. The 2600 BBS was where most information came from, but then AOL and Prodigy took over, etc etc.
