I use Anki with Core6K and Kanjidamage+ for actual "study". I fell four days behind and have over 300 reviews in reach, though. I don't necessarily recommend the latter deck, you could easily find a better kanji one, but I'm like 1500 deep already, so I'll just bear it to the end, now.
Reading practice is a combination of raw manga, Twitter (bonus production practice)/blogs, and VNs with text hookers, but I can rarely be bothered with that.
Conscious listening practice right now is almost exclusively YouTube vlogs, and Japanese let's plays, since when I'm watching a show, it's way too easy to just watch subs and tune out the audio. Lyrics too, if you count that.
If you don't already know exactly which I'm referring to, I have a Google docs link with lots of raw resources I can share when I get home if you're interested.

First year was Kana, basic vocab, basic grammar.
Second year we started on Kanji, even more vocab, and more complex sentences.
One could easily run through all the material we covered in a few month's time. There was only so much you can teach in a High School setting, especially considering the sort of people that were in the class.

>only so much you can teach in a High School setting
Of course, it's only an hour a few times a week, and it has to be set up so most people pass it. There are benefits like, you can't just not to it at all, and I assume you would build up a better "Can write from memory" base in proper classes.
