You play as Shin Kazama or an original character and you have to be really careful with your money and resources, from the weapons you buy to the plane you use as you try to buy out your contract to get out of Area 88. The earlier Ace Combat games did this with charging you money per mission for use of planes, and the original Capcom SNES game/UN Squadron did it too, but I just want it to be more elaborate and with Ace Combat gameplay.
Maybe do something with the missions so it won't be as linear, plus side missions with some certain characters like Kim Aba and Mickey Simon.
