Up until a couple of months ago I thought they were a meme until I experienced largely involuntary effects a day after listening to a session.
They are real, the trouble is you have to be deep as shit for them to work, and different things are going to work better with different people. You probably need some conditioning first, and a live person would be able to react to you in a way a recorded file cannot, so it's hard to steer you towards something that will work for you in particular.
But they are 100% a real thing.
Hypnosis in general also takes practice; I think I'm an abnormally slow case, but I was listening for more than ten years before I experienced these effects. That's a mix of me trancing "wrong", learning how to do it, and not finding the files that were right for me though.
Some other people seem to be very susceptible and get effects like this right off the bat.
