I am not the person who was banned but I saw this mod post and felt like I needed to make a comment. Ever since I saw the rule change I have kept to the anonymous name rule.

However I find this rule to be absolutely dreadful, and frankly one of the worst rules I have ever seen anywhere - on any board anywhere on the entire internet. And I am including one site which had a rule that you could not post a response for 24 hours minimum to anything posted.

If someone is routinely trolling, or posting shit you don't want to waste time reading, then the way to avoid seeing their posts and avoid conflict is to simply filter out their posts. However, the filter for 8ch only works on the name, not the IP address or whatever. Trying to filter a post that seems to be a waste of your reading time only causes every single post on this board to be filtered. This means that because of this one thoughtless rule it is impossible to filter out people or be filtered out in turn.

In other words because of this rule, where everyone must post as the exact same Anonymous name, you are forcing more conflict and fights than if you did not enforce this rule. We simply can't avoid people we are in conflict with. It is easier said than done to say just ignore them. This is not the only reason I dislike the rule but it is a major one.

I honestly put zero credibility in any of your reasons for why this rule had to be put in the first place. This is part of the internet. People routinely say or do things on the net they would never do in real life. And they do that with handles and names all the time. As random people all posting under the same name you are not promoting a place that is free of discrimination either. The only thing you're doing is causing situations where people tag multiple people as being the same person when they are not. I have seen several times where both myself and another Anonymous user were both >> postid tagged and the poster attempted to claim we were the same person when we were not.

Besides which I do not even understand why anyone felt this step was needed in the first place. Presumably everyone who posts on this board should be mature enough to realize that someone's opinion on any particular subject does not account for their entire self worth. Just because someone is one skin color, gender, religion, age, or votes a certain way does not make them any more or less valuable of a person even if it differs from you or me. The same goes with names. I will treat everyone the same regardless of whether they are named Anonymous or "johndoe2755".

Why is this such a sticking point for everyone else that such a rule needs to be put in place? Can no one else sincerely step back and realize that even friends can make bone headed posts and even enemies can make posts you'd agree with?
