Trying so hard to understand this program but really failing. I've been searching for hours to figure out how to set this up but I can't seem to get it right.

What I want is to have my images automatically tagged based off of the available boorus. As in, I've got images and I don't want to tag them myself and I know they exist on boorus. I'm under the impression that that's one of the main features of this program, but I can't seem to figure out how to actually do that.

Any help is greatly appreciated. <3

If you haven't seen it, I have written a 'getting started guide' for the client here:

http://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/

It is also included in any install: just hit help->help and it will open in your browser off your hard drive.

If that isn't good for you but you are ok with discord, you might like to jump on the discord channel here:

https://discord.gg/vy8CUB4

It is useful for a quick back-and-forth if you would like someone to help you through anything. I am on every Saturday if you want to catch me, but there are plenty of other users who idle and would be happy to help you out any other time.

The brief answer to your question is: it is technically complicated to find tags for a given file. The best available solution atm is to sync with my public tag repository, which takes time and a bit of CPU and HDD to do some database processing on its data. You can start syncing easily by hitting help->i don't know what I am doing->just give me some repos, please. Then keep using the client as normal, doing archive/delete filters and maybe experimenting with the downloaders. Let it do work on client shutdown, or leave it idle in the background, and after a few weeks your client should have synced with most of the PTR, and any files you have that are also on the popular boorus should have a bunch of tags.

I've seen these, but assumed they were outdated. The image here https://my.mixtape.moe/cvsicx.png is not what mine looks like. There is no "one-time mass import" button on that screen.

>>7849

I've seen the manual, but the screenshots are outdated and don't match up with the way the screens look. There's instructions there on how to import booru tag dbs, which I've located although since lost the URLs, but the instructions don't work at all because buttons are missing or screens don't look the same. :(

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it! I am and have been downloading the repository but it's quite large and takes its time, and so far with over 50% of it downloaded not a single one of my multi-thousand image collection has been tagged with anything.

I'll hop on discord when I get some time and ask about importing booru tag databases.

Answered part of my question here, help -> advanced mode and now the "one-time mass import" button is showing up. Will see if that helps.

That is because after downloading the program needs to process the downloaded files. only after that will you see any tags appear.

Just a tip, I vastly prefer rateings to tags currently.

tagging is just cumbersome currently

My tip would be to think of some tags that EVERY image in a given subset would get

here are mine for processing images innitialy

safe/suggestive/explicit

real/drawn

favroite

art

pony

funny

tag further

in this set, safe/suggestive/explicit is the gate, as in this is the tag that everything that passes through the initial import will get

Its a very small set that allows every image to be stored 6 ways, and ip to a further 8,

a safe, funny, pony image would narrow the field down considerably.

suggestive/explicit are largely the difference between am i just seeing tits or am I jerking off to the image.

Tag further is a hard stop 'this shit needs tagging now' just to denote there is something special about the image, don't miss it.

Most other tags and tag types are largely unimportant,

for the next roundor ratings, im probably going to have color/black and white be a gate for drawings, with a good number of sub options, one of which being comics, and from comics, a gate option would be stand alone/set

so when it gets down to searching

safe/funny/drawn/color/comic/standalone

that would likely return such a small amount of images that I could find said comic.

by the time I get to this, tagging may not be as much of a pain in the ass, or getting tags from burros may advance to the point I don't need to do anything further for sorting.

hell a bot/ai may get implemented that tags images well enough to get the small things, like in you image, it would likely see purple hair, blue eyes, and possibly horns, and from that could give out suggestions for other tags, like series, character so on so forth, while I wouldn't want an ai bot confirming tags on its own, a 'confirm yes/no' option by tags that an ai would suggest would be needed.

Look, what im saying is the bitch work of tagging is either already done somewhere or its solved somewhere else, don't go balls in doing fine detail tags, just do general sorting so things are easier to find for you and let scrapers/ai's do the bulk of the work

I've also come to this conclusion, but unfortunately after tens of hours of manually tagging things.

Using shortcuts like the number keys allows me to select a group of images, say, press 1 and Shift+3 which rates them as funny and unsafe.

Lol, learned the lesson on another program, that one let you keep images whereever you wanted, and with one move, everything I did was forgotten.

I have been wondering why there hasn't been a new image format, something compatible with jpeg but would also be able to hold metadata with it like tags. hell it could even be a shell like mkv is.
