Se tiene por concepto general que Dios es el ser que creo el universo; esa debería ser la base general en cuanto a su concepto, pero después de aquí todo se complica porque ese concepto se expande según la persona y todo se vuelve un lío. Es como el amor, todos sabemos como es, lo hemos experimentado, algunos lo sienten de forma distinta a los demás y por eso mismo es algo que no se pueda poner en palabras de forma tan fácil. Pero ojo, tomo el amor como ejemplo del cambio de conceptos y no para probar la existencia de Dios.
Dicho ésto, desde mi punto de vista, Dios puede ser bien sea un ser o el nombre que se le de a la fuerza que creo nuestro universo, sea inteligente o sea sólo un dominó que cayó sobre otro.

Estás en lo correcto, en el entendimiento vulgar es sólo eso. Pero visto desde un punto de vista más filosófico es algo mucho mas grande que esa cancioncita para que no temerle a los monstruos debajo de la cama. Cuando se empezaba a teorizar con respecto al átomo habían muchas dudas respecto al tema, pero debido a su escaso nivel tecnológico (comparado con el nuestro) era casi imposible resolverlas. El concepto de dios dentro de la filosofia de la religion (distinta de la teologia ya que la segunda parte de la premisa de que dios existe) es tan solo un figura metaforica cual se utiliza para relegar de la mente la compleja pero simple indiferente realidad de nuestra existencia sin proposito inherente.
En el caso que propones cual implica que "nunca seremos capaces de comprenderlo porque estamos limitados etc" me recuerda a la fabula propuesta por un filosofo con respecto a la discusion de la existencia real de una deidad (entendida en el marco judeocristiano occidental):
2 hombres se encuentran en un jardin el cual a su parecer esta meticulosamente arreglado. El hombre A sugiere que debe de existir un jardinero que se encarge del jardin.
Los 2 hombre en afan de comprobar tal hipotesis esperan durante largo tiempo pero ningun jardinero aparace a lo que el hombre A refiere que quizas este no se encuentra cuando hay gente el en jardin, por lo que el hombre B sugiere poner un sistema de vigilancia mientras los hombres no estan ahi.
Pese a esto no se encontro signo alguno de un jardinero detectado por el sistema de vigilancia.
Para esto el hombre A refiere que quizas el jardinero es invisible, inmaterial e indetectable a lo que el hombre B replica:
¿Que diferencia existe entre un jardinero que es invisible, inmateria e indetectable a un jardinero inexistente?
El concepto de dios fue utilizado por antiguos pensadores como una muletilla para llenar los huecos en sus observaciones de la realidad.

Me parece muy curiosa la fábula, pero es muy limitada para el tema tan extenso del que hablamos.
Como dije antes, uno de los propósitos de la ciencia es probar la no existencia de Dios llevando la posibilidad de su existencia a un cero absoluto; esto se consigue mediante los avances científicos. Si lo ponemos en contexto de la fábula, sería que los hombres tendrían que salir a buscar el jardinero y por cada paso que y terreno que cubran y no lo vean, estarían reduciendo su probabilidad de existencia. Además que en esa fábula se puede observar claramente que el jardinero no existía, no había posibilidad alguna de su existencia. La única forma de justificar su existencia sería hallar aquellas cuestiones que hicieron ese jardín así y llamarlas "jardinero", en resumen, transformar la figura del jardinero.

Soy Apateista y realmente opino que a nadie le importa los que opinen los demás sobre este tema, cada quien creara su visión idealizada de dios a sus necesidades y conveniencia para justificarse por x razón o hecho y los demás están mal o equivocado(ejemplo el esquizo ecuatoriano).
Creo también que es deprimente que se necesita de un "castigo eterno/recompensa divina" para impartir moral en los seres humanos.

Interesante hablas de individualización?
Pues si, he pensado que cada persona tiene ideas diferentes acerca de la definición de lo que es Dios y conformé a su educación, religión, país y experiencias personales sacan esa definición.
Mayormente se usa Dios para darle significado al mundo y a su creación.
Muchos buscan en Dios un refugio de nuestro vacío existencial y de el por qué estamos aquí.
Otros tienen miedo a la muerte y ahí buscan refugio en la vida eterna, resurrección, el paraíso etc…
Lo malo de la religión a base de mis experiencias y conocimientos es la atadura de el pecado, este atadura va de la mano con discriminación a los que estén en contra de ella..
También da una falsa esperanza a lo que hay después de la muerte o la falsa idea la creación del universo y dándole un significado en base a un cuento de niños.
En fin este tema es extenso.
