No it's not, Brutal Doom is the main reason why most normalfags know about it and they consider vanilla doom to be boring because it's not a COD wannabe. If anything, BD saved regular vanilla doom from being full of normalfags.

Whevs. Doom is like the only videogame my aunt knows of. Just because they put in a difficulty mode for gamers doesn't mean that they won't be making most of their money from Normie wallets. I guarantee you that the average Doom player is Normie as Candy Crush. It's a fucking Normie game. This playthrough is probably more skillful than 50% of the people who will play it.

The word is fathom.

It's really weird, but the most I can figure is that on-rails arcade games (as in actual machines in an arcade), sometimes have the player shoot at the health or ammo crate.

I have the original doom somewhere on my computer,seeing this made me want to go find it and play a level or two for old times sake

I can think of some possibilities.

He may have been checking the texture response of the health box. Like, if you shoot a health box does it get a bullet hole decal on it? Does the item get damaged in some way?

In Rise of the Triad, for instance, there are certain food items you can shoot with explosives and incendiaries which will heat them up and cause them to heal you for more. So if you're high on ammo but low on health you can make a tactical choice to trade off between them.

Given what I saw of his gameplay footage though, I don't think he's familiar enough with FPS games to be thinking along those lines though. Which leaves me with one other explanation: He's a fucktard who has no idea what he's doing.
