This isn't it as there's a big subset of the furry community that just makes anime-tier characters with cat ears with human faces. It's more so that the fanbase overall sticks to canine races and dragons. Primates are as under-represented as most other things.
Generally where I see primate fursonas are on non-furries pretending to be furries as primates are stereotyped as "funny" animals.
You can also see that furries are slaves to popular media. And monkeys and primates in general are stereotyped as extremely violent mentally deficient animals that shriek, shit and destroy things. So people don't relate to them compared to how wolves are portrayed either as loyal loners or social in a small in group. This is how popular media portrays these animals whereas in actuality primates are genuinely among the most intelligent animals (they conduct funerals and even practice pseudo forms of monogamy. They were able to teach Koko the Gorilla sign language and she understood the concept of an afterlife). The wolf social hierarchy has since been better understood to actually be just parent/child and that they're actually very violent animals. Another factor is most people grow up with dogs so furries relate more to wolves as being essentially more antisocial dogs. Since furries are predominantly social outcasts either due to mental deficiency or homosexuality. Primates by comparison are highly social animals so they don't relate to them as much.
