this is a pervasive myth. furries will never make any effort to actively welcome you into their communities. if you force your way in by being loud and extroverted, or buy your way in by spending loadsamoney on art or a suit and taking pictures you'll get attention, otherwise you'll fade into the background.

So true, they are the most cliqueish people I have ever seen. Furries will make you feel welcome if you mesh with their pack but if you don't they will avoid you like the plague. Don't go to conventions alone unless you are a social butterfly. It is basically an extension of the internet, and if you don't know a lot of people online then you'll probably not get a chance to know them.

Considering you can be the most mentally and sexually depraved degenerate and still have people mindlessly defend you, would mean that yes, you'll probably get the attention you're looking for.

I've never experienced that. But I suppose it depends. I've been welcomed, as have friends, but welcomed with friendship, not with popularity. But neither I nor friends who got into this stuff expected to become popular.

Again, though, it depends on what you want, OP. Friendship? Yes. Popularity? That takes lots of work. Love as in friends, yes. Love as in free sex everywhere? The stereotype isn't all that true. Love as in twoo wuv? Maybe, but that, too, takes time and effort, just like it does anywhere else.
