It seems like every problem in my life that isn't to do with money is to do with solving a problem that's trivial to someone but requires extremely obscure knowledge.
For a long time I've been trying to find out how to make something that sounds simple: Toed thighhigh furry pawsocks.
It it NOT simple.
The first issue is that, the correct material for this is almost impossible to find, it has to be stretchy since they're socks but fur since they're paws.
In another city I was able to find some material that is barely stretchy enough for normal socks (having them hug the skin as socks should makes them almost too tight to put on) and has only slight fur (but it looks and feels really good).
The second issue is that even if I did find a more appropriate material, the chances of me being able to buy it without overseas shipping are slim; and shipping a bunch of fabric to New Zealand would be obscenely expensive.
The third issue is the sewing pattern. Toed socks look terrible as a rule of thumb, but pawsocks could look great if the toes had padding around the wearer's toes to puff the toes up to be more pawlike. The problem with that is that would require the toes of the sock to collectively have far greater circumference than the foot of the sock (even non-puffed toes require slightly more circumference), and toed sock sewing patterns have the former constrained by the latter. Even normal sock material would have trouble providing the necessary amount of stretch let alone a furred material.
So, does anyone have advice for this or know somewhere I can find out more information?
