I'm 23 and I was hired by one of the biggest VFX studios in the world to work on creatures with a furry character on my portfolio, among other things.
I'm not planning on dropping the anthro theme anytime soon. I stopped giving a fuck about what other people think of me a long time ago, but I truly convinced myself of that only recently.
But the difference is that I don't get guilt-trips over having been a sexually confused teenager. Sure. I beat my meat to furry shit. Who fucking cares. But I always had an interest for creatures and anthropomorphism well before I had hit puberty. But the more I worked hard to become a better artist, the more I realized this fandom actively hates actual skills and only goes for the e-celeb status.
It's sad, because in the beginning I thought the tides would turn, that the generation that grew up with cartoon platformers would rise up against the vapid bullshit that is mainstream entertainment today and bring the animal mascots back with a more mature, non-sexual twist to them.
I thought I would find these people on imageboards, since their premise was that social status had no value. But I was wrong on so many levels, oh man. You only exploit the anonymity to hate on each other's fake idols without repercussions to your internet persona.
Every time I tried to test the waters by criticizing some talentless popufur, I only got butthurt responses back. Even being the change I wanted to see did not work, you're all only pretending to be friends with people who don't even acknowledge you, because everyone else is trying to be friends with them. It's a self-feeding cycle of endless attention-craving that has nothing to do with actually producing interesting media.
The fandom is actually just a continuous recycling of dumb little kids who just discovered politics and social justice and want to talk shit over the internet and the people who stick for longer are all 30+ yo failures who make the kids unload their mommy's credit card on them.
Even funnier is when the little drones defend popufurs by leveraging their "skills". They're just a facade. Being a content creator in this fandom is worthless. If you're shit, everyone hates you. If you're too good, everyone hates you because you're better than their favorite popufur. You need to be a black hole of attention and then your skills won't actually matter. It's not like you were interested in having any skills if you wanted to be an attention whore in the first place.
But couldn't you all just stick to weebshit instead of polluting my beloved creatures, for fuck's sake?
