Oh, and "this...meme" and "it's...someone" are independent clauses so should be separated by a semicolon. Also, there should be a comma between "retarded" and "but" in the next sentence, separating the independent clauses linked by a conjunction; bet you didn't even notice that one. The idea of a 40-year-old "millennial" is kinda retarded; it's the fault of idiots who appropriated the millennial generation to describe CURRENT children. Personally, I feel the term is too politically loaded and should not be used. But either way, generations commonly encompass 20 years. Your definition is a little thin.

It's less their age and more that they're not really big deals in the furry fandom. They don't do art, they've pissed people off or they just fly under the radar. They're either not noticed or intensely disliked, and honestly if you're disliked by the fandom you probably shouldn't try to be a part of it. I know it's easy to get much of the fandom upset at you, just critique a popufur's art and that usually does it but still, why bother to try and deal with people who fucking hate you? That whole "negative attention is better than no attention" mentality is bullshit, unless they have a fetish for being hated.

And if you're just not getting notice despite putting all that effort into artwork, then call it quits and move on. The world works funny, sometimes even talented artists just fail to catch on, I think bad luck does exist as some gain success and love with no effort, others get forgotten or hated despite working their asses off.

I fall mostly in the former for pissing off some sensitive queen, and a bit of the latter, I just walked away, I didn't see nay need to abuse myself to suck up to people who hate me no matter what and I don't much care to put up with either. It wans't worth dealing with butthurt faggot manchildren who made their mind up nor tolerating fetish crap that makes me sick to look at. It got to be a mutual hatred after so long and I don't my "fans" give a shit or notice. None of them have ever said so, but these days artists are everywhere and quite replaceable if one leaves or even dies, odds are unless you are popufur you don't matter enough to be missed and someone else will fill the space you left within a day.

That sound harsh or full of shit? It's reality. The world doesn't work on that "if you work hard you will succeed" preschool Sesame Street feel-good crap. What you want isn't enough, the world works on its own rules that don't involve keeping you happy all the time and not everything goes your way. Furry is a part of that, not everyone belongs, not everyone will be a big deal. Some people need to know whee they belong and to move the fuck on if what they try isn't working.

It hasn't helped much that the average age of furries is now 20-26 because it's all cartoon and video game fans these days. Older people are seen as the weirdos of the fandom.

 No.74673

>>74671

>It hasn't helped much that the average age of furries is now 20-26 because it's all cartoon and video game fans these days

The irony of this is that most of the popufur content creators are over 30, having been in the fandom (thus how they gained their popufur status) since a decade ago or more. Part of the reason why the whole "fursona" thing caught on is that it allows anyone to BE anyone online. A popufur can be 40 irl, but if their online persona is a nubile attractive 20-year-old fox or whatever, nobody cares.

I was actually thinking about this the other day.

Like real talk, by what age do I have drop all the furshit? I'm 25 now and will 30 in the blink of an eye. Kinda depressing knowing I'll have to give this stuff up especially since I'm only really now getting into it and haven't even been to a con or anything. What are some acceptable old people hobbies to fill the void?

 No.74698

In my experience it's better if you're a producer of furshit rather than a consumer. If you're 30 and a really good furry artist then it's seen as a lot better since you're also making money off it as opposed to just being in the community to fuck 20 year old gay boys.

Anyone 35+ still writing fan fiction and drawing cartoon porn instead of having a real life is probably never going to amount to anything anyway nor do they contribute. Anyone 18+ doing that should know better too. Fan Fiction is what teenagers write because they think their shipping bullshit is better than the official story.

Wrong, they will have left their art in the world, which is far more than your average normalfag will ever amount to by running around chasing meaningless social status.

>having a real life

they are real people who have real lives.

>what the fuck do you think your sex obsession is? You like child sex, that makes you a pedo without question.

as long as nobody gets hurt there is no problem, two dimensional cartoon characters are not sentient and do not in fact have emotion, nor do they have any sense of self or any perception of anything. Although it might seem as if an event is taking place, that is only an illusion caused by the pixels in your monitor assuming a certain pattern of colors and nuances.

I don't think it has anything to do with being respected. People just like coming up with anything they share in common to fabricate up an extended identity. Being a furry and over 30 doesn't mean sharing a lot in common necessarily with somebody but neither does being an Arkansas Furry, a Hetero Fur, a Jewish Fur, or any other tacked on merit badge you see in people's FA profiles.

I've used to think about this off and on when I was your age too. I'm 29 now and understand that worried feeling that the general acceptability of being into this stuff within or outside the fandom goes into a precipitous decline at age 30. Talking with other people slightly older than me, it doesn't seem like it's really that big of a deal. Most of them just naturally started spending less time participating in furry things as other affairs in life like a career, different hobbies, etc. took up more free space. Since everyone else was aging too and no longer a college student able to refresh networking sites and furshit galleries all day, the peer pressure declined too.

As for "old people hobbies," people tend to mellow out a lot soon after hitting their 30s. They tend to enter that age where they just stop giving a fuck about what other people think of them. And edgy 21-year-old Gen Z guy might give you the stink eye and call that person a "faggot bugman" for owning a Nintendo Switch, but the older guy would just look at him like he's a retard and then go right back to playing his 2-hours of video games.

If your metric is the age at which it's acceptable to go to a convention, then you shouldn't worry at all. The cons I've been to have had people in their late 40s or early 50s there and even married people with children old enough to start asking their parents certain questions.

I'm 23 and I was hired by one of the biggest VFX studios in the world to work on creatures with a furry character on my portfolio, among other things.

I'm not planning on dropping the anthro theme anytime soon. I stopped giving a fuck about what other people think of me a long time ago, but I truly convinced myself of that only recently.

But the difference is that I don't get guilt-trips over having been a sexually confused teenager. Sure. I beat my meat to furry shit. Who fucking cares. But I always had an interest for creatures and anthropomorphism well before I had hit puberty. But the more I worked hard to become a better artist, the more I realized this fandom actively hates actual skills and only goes for the e-celeb status.

It's sad, because in the beginning I thought the tides would turn, that the generation that grew up with cartoon platformers would rise up against the vapid bullshit that is mainstream entertainment today and bring the animal mascots back with a more mature, non-sexual twist to them.

I thought I would find these people on imageboards, since their premise was that social status had no value. But I was wrong on so many levels, oh man. You only exploit the anonymity to hate on each other's fake idols without repercussions to your internet persona.

Every time I tried to test the waters by criticizing some talentless popufur, I only got butthurt responses back. Even being the change I wanted to see did not work, you're all only pretending to be friends with people who don't even acknowledge you, because everyone else is trying to be friends with them. It's a self-feeding cycle of endless attention-craving that has nothing to do with actually producing interesting media.

The fandom is actually just a continuous recycling of dumb little kids who just discovered politics and social justice and want to talk shit over the internet and the people who stick for longer are all 30+ yo failures who make the kids unload their mommy's credit card on them.

Even funnier is when the little drones defend popufurs by leveraging their "skills". They're just a facade. Being a content creator in this fandom is worthless. If you're shit, everyone hates you. If you're too good, everyone hates you because you're better than their favorite popufur. You need to be a black hole of attention and then your skills won't actually matter. It's not like you were interested in having any skills if you wanted to be an attention whore in the first place.

But couldn't you all just stick to weebshit instead of polluting my beloved creatures, for fuck's sake?

 No.74806>>74816

>>74776

Look, I'm just talking about stuff like having user accounts on furry art sites, talking with people, and sharing anthropomorphic media. I don't get involved with """celebrity""" kabuki or intra-fandom cliques. As a matter of fact, I only became freer of that orbit the older I got.

You seemed to have come in with a mission and are bitter that you couldn't spark the revolution. Don't really know what to say other than it shouldn't surprise you that the most mature, high quality, and interesting anthropomorphic stuff without lustful, overly prurient tones isn't going to come from within the furry fandom loudly associating with it. Very few things of worth in their field are ever that tied to the hip to the fandom/community, or when was the last time you saw something that was "a love letter to the fans" which wasn't derivative and boring? Doesn't seem like something that only furries have to deal with.

>Don't really know what to say other than it shouldn't surprise you that the most mature, high quality, and interesting anthropomorphic stuff without lustful, overly prurient tones isn't going to come from within the furry fandom loudly associating with it.

You're making it sound like there's an "adult side" of the furry fandom, as in "made up of actual adults and not manchildren" of which nobody is aware of.

 No.74820

>>74816

Well, speak for yourself. I don't know about a whole side of the fandom where people who meet vague and arbitrary standards for adulthood lie, but there are definitely people who know how to maintain a real life and keep their furry interests in check. You aren't aware of them because nobody's interested in well-adjusted people. The internet wants eccentrics and freaks to watch.

Unless you're arguing that paying for anthropomorphic art, being into suiting, or other furry hobbies is intrinsically and without appeal to the jury manchild behavior, which strikes me as more than a little insecure. Not many people would meet that watermark for invincibly mature adulthood in the privacy of their own homes.

Oh time for a random story. I lost my job, so I ended up in welfare. I requested to take portfolio advice, which was twice a week.

One day I wanted to leave and my advisor (a middle aged woman, made it more awkward) was like "Wait, before you go, I've got a question. I've got another customer who wants to get into concept art/ design. And you seem to know a thing or two about pop culture. Can you tell me if these drawings are original or ripped off from somewhere?"

She hands me some sketches showing anthros. I was feeling like some paranoid stoner. Like "Oh shiiiiit... she figured it out. How did she figure it all out?!"

But then I thought, hey, this situation is weird enough, lets make it even more weird.

So I replied to her that those pics were drawn by looking at other peoples art (clearly Maxblackrabbit). At first I even thought her other customer would be friggin Maxblackrabbit.

Yeah, that happened. I outed myself as a furry at a public service, and I'm living in Germany - that shit just isn't common here.
