I plan on doing it through luck, some practice and marketing. You don't need talent, you just need to be recognized, once you have a brand name people will flock to you begging for commission work.

Definitely. I've got a tablet that I've been putting off practising with for a while, but I'm reading through The Practise and Science of Drawing now and it's pretty neat.

I hate how true this is. You have talented artists designing beautiful characters, and nobody gives a fuck; but if some juice company gets a new clipart-tier animal mascot, you get a hundred people drawing porn of it.

Among furries I reckon it's 80% who your friends are, 20% what you draw, and zero on quality, effort an innovation.

Based on my observations, you should doodle critters with big floppy dicks for a while at first. It doesn't matter what the critters do, if it's drawn on a napkin, if you're propagating a political/religious/drug agenda, as long as there are dicks.

I think it's because people want to put a creative spin on a crappy design to make it look better. They don't want to taint something already good.
