OP, having known some folks in BDSM and talked a lot about this just out of curiosity, here's the scoop:

Yes, there are people out there who want a live-in slave. There are safe ways and VERY UNsafe ways of finding such a person. The safest way is to get involved with your local BDSM community, and you absolutely should not be in a rush. Talk with lots of people. Find out where the kink people hang out-- and immediately nix all the bars. If you have any sort of "community center for sex-positive people"-type place, go there and, again, talk to as many people as you can. Don't start out with, "Hi, I'm trying to find a master," but ask questions about this subject, and be clear that you want to go about this the safe way.

There's a blogger I've read, too, who may be able to help you figure out where to go in your city, or at least give you directions. She's in Seattle, and goes by Mistress Matisse. Via her blog, I also know about The Wet Spot, also in Seattle, a place where BDSM community events happen, and from what I've read about it, they too may have resources if you contact them.

Once you do think you've found someone, ask others in the area about them. If they're not local, do some digging first: find someone, if only a pro-dom/domme or some sort of BDSM group, in their area, and ask about them. Who has met them, done scenes with them? Are they nice, are they respectful, do they have a good reputation? People who are in position to be a master of a live-in slave or pet are not assholes, no matter what "50 Shades of Gray" would have the reader believe, and I doubt you want that. You need someone who will respect your boundaries, and like any relationship, your needs and theirs need to mesh to a certain degree.
