Simple character means it's easy to draw and charizard is very iconic looking so it sticks out from a lot of other dragons. You can't just write it off as nostalgia all the time because not everyone has being playing pokemon or watching the show since the first gen.

I was being a little hyperbolic when I said people will fap to anything but my point still stands. Search e621 for dragons then search for turtles. Dragons are a much more popular species. Charizard isn't popular because he has a great design, he's popular because he's a dragon that people had fond memories of in childhood.

He's aesthetically pleasing and an easy to attribute a big dom attitude to, it doesn't take that much psychoanalysis.

The only good one of these is Renamon. Digimon is so over-designed it hurts.

He's easier to draw and when he showed up in the anime, had a lot more character than even most of the humans at the time.

1. Visibility, Charizard was on the Pokemon Red cartridge and package, it was on a lot of the trading card packs and other Pokemon products, it's a starter Pokemon,

2. Nostalgia, because of 1, but add time

3. Simplicity, Charizard is big orange dragon with its tail on fire, that's an easy idea to reproduce, and an easy character to draw.

Probably more, either way, once a design or character has a bit of headway in arguments that speak for it as source material to create and consume fap material from, it reinforces itself, because people create fanart, based on the fanart, people create fap material, people fap to the fap material, thus associate the source material with that and are more inclined to create more fanart and fap material. I remember one of my first writefaggings that involved a charizard. For several months, I had to make sure nobody had a chance to pick up on the weird boners I had whenever a charizard was to be seen somewhere.

It's literally called "charizard" anon. char+lizard and the japs have it as "lizardon" lizard+don.

Also before you say "its megas are dragon type", Altaria is an avian with no dragon traits at all and is a dragon type. Nothing about it at all is based off a peng. Tyrantrum is literally a tyrannosaur.
