For me, the comedy appeals greatly. Always loved stuff what clashes mundane with fantastical. Most the time it's done with the mundane going to the fantastical, but personally, I prefer fantasy stuff in the mundane.
That, and the worldbuilding as well as the characters kept me interested.

Disney is pretty well known for studying the movement of actual animals before animating them, so this doesn't really surprise me.
As for other scenes... From what I understand that's his only appearance in the made-for-TV movie. There's also a TV series with the same characters, which he shows up in as well, but differently animated: smaller and more transparent, but also being more anthropomorphic. It's a weird combination with the feral-like rear limbs with human-like chest and hands. It's still cute, but doesn't give me the aching urge to bend down on all fours and drop my pants like the big feral version does.

Sadly up until about a few years ago when someone finally uploaded the episodes, it had completely vanished for a good 10+ years after airing, save for some crappy screenshots, promo art, and 6 raw episodes on youtube.
