As someone who used to play furcadia quite a bit, I'd say no, at least not anymore. It was in it's prime in 2000-2013, but has slowly been dwindling since.
Used to have up to 4,000 people online with a very active community, now it is like 800 on a good day. (Both values you have to subtract like 200-400 from because of the people afk in furn)
I remember some popular dreams that were on there that are now gone. I wish I had kept a copy for archival purposes.
But my idea on why it has died is they waited way to long on their promises.
We had just gotten 32-bit colour within the last year, despite it being promised like 10 years ago. We are still waiting for "attachments".
My advice is if you want to play something like furcadia, go with second life. It is cheaper in the long run.
Comparisons:
Second Life:
>Avatars are like $5 a pop for life, customise to your heart's content.
>Way more to explore with a pretty active community.
>Easier to be griefed due to openness
>Land is fucking expensive but you can rent a decent plot of land for $5 a week
>Very diverse community
>3 dimensional movement, stand on people or bump them out of your way if they are blocking you, also you can fly.
>Take your stuff where you go, wear what you want and have any attachments of your choice. Region admins may say to detach stuff though but it is unlikely unless it is weapons or penises in a general area.
Furcadia:
>Avatars are about $10 per month and $50-100 for life, but you can upload them in private dreams and use them locally for free, but unless it is your dream you cannot customise them beyond colours
>Mostly build a homes these days, all the neat dreams are gone or have no one in it.
>A lot harder to be griefed, people can get many alts and block paths, or spam objects if the dream is poorly written.
>Uploading dreams are free and they stay up for as long as it has people in it, you can get premium to keep it up without people in it and other levels of premium to increase the map size.
>Very SJW-ish these days, especially across the administration.
>2 dimensional walking field, people cannot occupy the same tile at once so stuff gets easily crowded in Popular areas. Nice if you like old style isometric games.
>Your creations are limited to your private dreams, only your description, avatar of choice, and user profile picture comes with you in all dreams.
Both have very slow development but I have been seeing second life having more updates in a year than furcadia has had in it's entire life span.
Either way, I hope this provides some insight to making a decision on whether to try furcadia. I tried to stay neutral and state both upsides and downsides to both.
