This. I've been keeping my eye on it because of >>38796. However last time I checked they're basically only inviting industry professionals and large corporations to create content and access the alpha/beta (can't remember what stage it's in) at the moment, and it sounds like they're wanting it to be not lewd.
I think it'll end up failing because
1. if I understand correctly there isn't currently a VR-less version in the plans, and I don't think they'll get their current SL players to pony up the $800+ for a VR headset and any necessary PC upgrades to run it.
this could be good or bad depending on how you look at it
2. a) I think most of the non-creative industries will quit using it for professional stuff after a few months like they did with SL. Why? I personally don't think the tech is cheap enough for your average company to see it as a beneficial expense. Why would a CEO spend $25k on 15-20 high end PCs that are able to run VR (and not cause motion sickness), when they could use skype instead?
b) I think a lot of creative industries would eventually drop most, if not all of their professional use of the platform as well because it'd probably be even less useful there. Sure, you could use it to show off WIP models, environments and levels during meetings and shit, but now there are copies of those assets on someone else's servers which is bad because LL would be unlikely to hand you total server and source control for your grid, keeping you from ensuring security. Because you can't ensure security, you can't be sure that someone won't slip in to your grid's filesystem and steal all the uploaded assets that you've been displaying in Sansar since the beginning of your commercial project.
If LL commits to keeping Sansar SFW like they seem to be trying to do, I think a lot of employees would quit using it for personal use when their studio stops using it as well. Why? Creative types tend to be into all kinds of weird shit, sexual or not. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a lot of people in the game and film industries are furries to some degree, but if LL tries to lock out NSFW content and furry shit, they'd probably go to another more modern virtual world that lets them engage in that kind of stuff like high-fidelity.
Though most non-indie creative types probably wouldn't admit they're furries because it can be a toss-up when it comes to whether or not a studio gives a shit
Note, decided to take a glance at their site before submitting. As it turns out, NSFW or potentially even suggestive content is strictly prohibited according to their community guidelines https://www.lindenlab.com/legal/content-guidelines
This game is probably gonna be dead in a matter of a few months if they don't compromise and add a content rating system like in SL
