What are your guys thoughts about Eastwood's latest and some say, greatest film?
▶ No.2958>>2968
Haven't seen it. Who said it's his best?
Gran Torino was decent though, aside from his dodgy singing. Still need to see pic related.
▶ No.2963>>2968
The sniper guy was apparently a massive cunt in real life, only regret was not killing more people, didn't really give a fuck about the women and kids he shot, etc. Gran Torino was definitely his best, imo.

>>2963Meh. I don't really care about the personal attacks on him from the left. He's still a badass.
>>2958Gran Torino was 11/10. Have you done the Eastwood filmography? I kinda want to do his after watching AS.

>>2968> Have you done the Eastwood filmography?Mainly his westerns and a few others here and there.
I'm intrigued that he played (a version of) John Huston in White Hunter Black Heart, but the trailer isn't encouraging. He probably should have cast someone else.

>>2968If you think shooting people from a distance is "badass", you're beyond retarded. Snipers are the epitome of cowardice. Not only was that guy a murderer, but a coward too. A true american hero!

>>2974lmfao go home micheal moore. You sound completely clueless on reality.
>muh wars>muh modern warfareIf he drilled kids to death like that muslim savage would you still be calling him a coward?

I'm going to flip a coin. Heads for David Leans filmography or Tails for Eastwoods.

>>2957 (OP)I didn't really care for it too much, it was pretty boring in stretches, and it was too similar to every other Iraq-war movie. And it was Eastwood, so you knew exactly what was going to happen in the end
▶ No.2999>>3083
>>2994I don't know if I agree. I felt the tension everytime he was in a tour and while at home. I was just waiting for him to potentially snap while not at war.
So your saying that Eastwood movies always have the hero die at the end?
Isn't that the mark of a good story?
▶ No.3023>>3087
I think that if you saw it and still think it was American propaganda then you shouldn't post on a film board. You clearly can't read films properly.
▶ No.3026
It was a decent film and similar to Hurt Locker but with a pro-American slant which I neither agree or disagree with, it just adds a "layer" to the story, imo. This is not Clints best work by far. Unforgiven was superior to this even though it is not my fav Western of his (Outlaw Josey Wales).
▶ No.3027>>3037 >>3762
I even dare to say that Million Dollar Baby has a better/gripping story than A.S.
▶ No.3037>>3762
>>3027I don't know about that one. It kinda seems like a stretch. Granted the subject matter might be a little more interesting but (as a straight male loljk) I felt like AS held more substance than MDB due to the fact it has a much more serious tone to it.
Plus female boxers are butch dykes and I can't stand them.

>>2999>mark of a good storythere is no such thing. his predictability only makes him a worse director not a better one.

Definitely one of his more mediocre films; his POS screenwriter seems to have forgotten to write an ending.

>>2957 (OP)It was pretty trash, it used sloppy and conventional techniques to deliever a story that was revolved with a swish of the therapists hands. I enjoyed it slightly, but this is something we've all seen 10 times before, Grand tarino is his best
>>2974Stop being a faggot, saying snipers are 'cowards' as if they picked up a gun and said 'fug dis I'm chillin at the back' is pretty dim. He was trained to fight, he was selected as a sniper, he accepted the job
Also out of interest, what does anyone think of the entire 'propaganda' and 'mis representation of jawas' argument about this movie

>>3087did you miss the fact he was killed by a veteran? did you miss the fact that maybe Eastwood's vision is a little more complex than your stupid way of looking at the world and gracing it with your meaningless moral judgements?

>>3752What parts were sloppy? The only parts that I disregarded were from the beginning when his gf explained why she cheated on him. It sounded like it was written by a 10 year old girl.
Also the "new black" guy at boot camp was unnecessary and most likely thrown in to honor the multikulti nazis of h-town.
>>3762That's a difficult question. I think a lot of younger audiences will relate with MDB more than Unforgiven, but I like the latter better. My pick is biased too cause lesbians are obnoxious and westerns are one of the most timeless genres of cinema.
That's just me though.

High Plains Drifter is still his best.
Honkytonk Man and The Bridges of Madison County were also good surprises.

>>3764The writing, the exposure to trash visual-effects and that slow motion bullet fired at the antagonist sniper. I enjoy movies that cover their technical and financial constraints with clever cinematography and editing, but clint attempted things that were beyond his ability to film ie: Overtly long aerial shots of war torn cities with choppers flying over head. And the slow motion bullet shot was terrible, we all knew he was going to land the shot why try drawing something like that out. And while I'm on a rant, I think actually seeing the enemy sniper was a simple and bad move. There's a line in the movie "You can't kill what you don't know" or something along those lines, I think with that logic in mind it would've been more effective if we had not seen the enemy sniper up until his demise, much like what this sequence did:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plkLkXStpucyou never see the others close up clearly
yeah it was just kinda simple that's all

I did not care much for the film, and actually think its one of Eastwood's lesser films.
Pacing and editing was horrible. Yes. It did feel sloppy, as some have already said. I had a real hard time deciphering time changes, like how a year would pass by suddenly and yet felt like events previously seen were just the day before. Also seemed like he got a lot of time off to go back home anytime he wanted because of this as well.
The entire opening's tension was lost due to the long flash back cutting in right before he fired. When it got back to that scene, I no longer felt any investment to it. Should have had the flash back after the deed was done.
The guy was doing a lot of things that was making me scratch my head in wonder as to why he was not getting in trouble for the actions he was doing. Constantly working without a spotter(least you hardly see the spotter), leaving his post to go play hero and leading a team on the ground, instead of watching the team's backs. Also the reason why some people get killed, leading people into obviously bad situations. Does not seem to call in certain things that could be crucial to the lives of the others like, "Hey, just killed a guy that was about to use an RPG on your unit. Might want to go get that thing before some kid comes along and picks it up and tries to use it." There really did seem to be a lack of common sense to a lot of the things happening.
To give the film some good notes, It does portray situations that do need to be addressed like how children are being used for the fighting. Think the kids thing was better done in Lord of War though. Bradley Cooper was really good, and I do enjoy actors who dedicate themselves to a role like he did. There are some intense moments in the movie, so its not dull or anything. The ending though could have been better. "Goodbye, love you" [he was not heard from again. fin].
Not Eastwood's best or worst. Above average. In my opinion, this film did not deserve all the praise it was getting.

>>3786I think they did it to show who he was in his previous life, like winning the gold medal for his country in the Olympics. His backstory was interesting and plus it's true, so I'm glad Eastwood decided to show that aspect.
As far as the shot sequence being drawn out and the Bullet CGI, maybe your right. The demographics for this movie won't give these things too much thought though, their older and don't focus on things like that.
In fact, probably only people who work with CGI or have passion for the digital arts would notice that.
