The new Ozu or the new Ozu?
▶ No.2794>>2797
Kore-pleb here, how does he emulate Ozu and what's his best work?
▶ No.2797
>>2794Nearly all his films focus on family or loved ones and has a natural and unintrusive style. He favours static shots over moving ones, but he isn't completely against using dollys or steadicams.
His best work imo is either Nobody Knows or After Life, but his most Ozu-y film is definitely still walking.

As fun as sophisticated camerawork can be, there's something appealing to me about static shots at some distance from characters. This allows space for precise blocking within the frame. It also gives characters' movements more impact.
I also like it when this type of film includes minimal closeups. It's somewhat of a stylistic throwback to before television, when everything was expected to be viewed on a large screen.

Nobody Knows was pretty good.
>Dat shoe squeak
Breaks my fucking heart every time I hear it. Also I like how he has the boy blow most of the money to buy a PS2 like most kids would. Man, now I want to watch it. I don't know if I want to feel right now though.

>>3529Oh no, I wonder what happened. That's really too bad. Although from the description, I don't think it's something I'd want from him. I'm absolutely in love with Oasis. I want something of that heart and spirit.
