Pretty much exactly this. It's probably kind of silly, but if someone's portrayal didn't match how a character is portrayed in the source material or other expectations, I'd probably not enjoy it as much. Therefore, it's easier not to bother looking for play involving the character, since expecting someone to meet ridiculous expectations is unfair to them and kind of shitty for me to do as a player. That said, if I had interest in a character and knew what was expected by the receiving party, I wouldn't be against playing someone's waifu for them, if asked.

Mainly it was a way to get me out of my comfort zone of playing grizzled, jaded, manly man characters (since I'd never really played a female character up until that point), and also to see how people would react to a certain type of behavior that went against what they were used to seeing. It was on Space Station 13. The character I played was innocent, kind, helpful, and absolutely harmless, which led to a weird sort of fan-club forming around her that turned into a lynch mob against people who tried to harm her on several occasions. It's pretty funny in retrospect, in a way I played mai waifu as everyone else's waifu. As for why I wouldn't play them in an erotic way, it was mostly a matter of consequence (ERP was generally looked down upon), and my unwillingness to break character for the sake of smut.
I feel autistic for typing out these blobs of text, oh god. I'm just a stickler for playing a character correctly and not cramming smut into everything without reason. Unless, of course the reason itself is smut, in which case I turn into a dirty whore.
