 No.121480[Watch Thread][Show All Posts]

Discuss ideas that you have for characters, either for yourself or others. Characters that you would like to play but haven't gotten around to, characters that you would like to play with but have never seen, or even characters that you find interesting but wouldn't necessarily play with yourself.

Express interest in others' characters to encourage them, and toss ideas to help people construct more interesting characters. Inspire others and be inspired! Post WIP character profiles if you are interested in using F-list and get help filling in the blanks if you need help there.

I would like to play a teen girl in a wild west/weird west fantasy setting. She would be a tomboy and the oldest of 5+ sisters, so she would fill the family role of "son." She has some interest in being a bounty hunter or a lawman when she is older and is trying to think of how to tell her parents that. She sometimes dresses as a boy and binds her breasts experimentally.

I've always wanted to see a profile that played a girl with a disability without trying to work up the pity angle. A girl in a wheel chair, a deaf girl, a blind girl, whatever. Just someone trying their best and maintaining an optimistic world view rather than someone who needs a pity party.

 No.121491>>121492

>>121489

Not once have I played the pity angle in a way that wasn't her making a joke out of it.

Shh, our little secret.

I've been wanting to play a medium-functioning autistic character who is nonverbal in times of stress. I'm high-functioning myself so I don't really have a good reason to play the pity angle there. I mostly want to play a character who has a thought process more similar to my own for once.

I think that a lot of people who play characters with disabilities because they want to be taken care of, or perhaps they are just catering to others' savior fantasies.

 No.121496

Yeah, I agree. It's not that I particularly dislike those things, I just think there's more depth to be explored there too. If you make that character, let me know! I'd love to play!

I think I saw a Katawa Shoujou with a decent looking profile once. An Emi if I remember correctly.

I wonder how hard it would be to play a mute or deaf character? I assume it would involve a lot of "my character suddenly knows sign language", which feels almost like cheating. I might have just gotten an idea for a new character.

I have a character that would work really well as a suitor for yours, but I can't really do any rp til next month, so in the mean time I bookmarked ya.

If you like trauma survivors with fragile emotions and head to toe burn scarring maybe you might like Hanako?

https://www.f-list.net/c/hanako%20ikezawa/

She's interested in being seen as an equal, first and foremost. White knighting and pity aren't welcome and she will resent you for it.

Very good player and character, and I can personally recommend them. They don't tend to play their character stooped in pity, although they do have psychological problems as a result of their accident. Still - an optimistic and good-natured character.

 No.121522

From the ideas I'll probably never get around to using pile:

Petite (boyish) twin sisters. One has taken to bullying the other by putting her in a combination chastity belt and strap-on and having her get fucked like a trap before she's let out.

Since they're twins, the roles could be reversed for comeuppance.

Do you guys think there's anything salvageable for a grizzled veteran, or is it too much of a cliche?

 No.122161>>122167

>>122160

If you put some kind of spin on it, you'll probably have a hell of a lot more play than most blues if you go for an older guy rather than a jaded 20-something. For what it's worth, it's one of my favorite tropes, too

 No.122166

>>122160

I love playing with grizzled veteran types.

It's definitely a cliche but if you give him a lot of character and make an inviting profile you'll get more attention.

 No.122167>>122168

>>122161

I was thinking of either going the bitter or sympathetic route, with sympathetic being masked with bravado/machismo. I just feel grizzled veterans for more compelling characters and stories. At first I was thinking of a noble or lord, but that's that even more of a cliche, a boring one at that. Sure nobility have problems and know (to extent) what suffering is, but at least they have the luxury of having luxury.

 No.122168>>122169

>>122167

Pick the backstory that will best fit the kinds of stories you want to roleplay.

Looking mainly for damsel in distress lovers? Maybe a noble background.

Looking mainly for tomboys living in the streets? Commoner background.

I've always wanted to make this one particular dnd-ish girl…

>Air genasi

>bloodsport dualist (your first blood victory kind of affair)

>hexblade with an elemental lord pact

and the first hints of fleshed out detail

>pact is naturally lewd. Patron is either a big'ol kindly uncle type djinn or shemale aunt.

>either way she pays for the magic by letting them use her for a while

>the spells and magic give her an edge as a part-time adventurer during the arena circuit off season

>Adventuring, and the fights are to win money and fame. Necessary to gain standing within the hierarchy of her family.

She's the definition of a difficult spot. On the one hand she's given a pact and the opportunity to impress. But on the other hand it's exclusively because her patron is a doting relative and the fact that she's gotta get fucked to keep her spells is a source of endless waspish bullshit from others in the family.

 No.122561>>122570 >>128091

Also got a couple others on the queer end of the spectrum.

>Androgynous looking blond trap

>Raised by a single mother in an isolated small town to be the idealised housewife because..reasons

>Cooks, cleans, takes cock like a champ

His flaw is being the product of his environment.

Smart enough, but woefully ignorant because "a lady doesn't need books"

Sexual purest, but a believer in "true love" plus teenage hormones/curiosity make him fairly easy to manipulate

Or

>Bratty nightmare princeling of fantasy egypt

>pissed off enough people and ends up "taught a lesson" by pervert priests

>monsterrape.mp3 and lewd_alterations.iso online

>brat becomes totally dependent on sex. Cannot cum without a living cock

>still tries to pretend all is well. Pride's the only thing holding him together in public

flaws are obvious. He is 100% desperate all of the time and as such pathetically easy to control

 No.122570

>>122561

Still more!

>Demon trap

>Either a former seer/individual of considerable power cursed by a rival into a wish-granting cocksleve for humans as revenge for some ancient slight

>Alternatively, a fledgling demon drawn to the big city and the wealth of human corruption. Controls a nightclub and poses as an illegal whore to have fun while he matures

and finally

>Fantasy version of that server dude

>Chill, full of stories about strange experiences and exotic places

>never in one place for any length of time

>Tall, tan, and just a little bit shaggy

>Flagrant bisexual and switch

>A less retarded Owen Wilson in Zoolander type

 No.122645

I'd love to play a character who can be several different Warframe frames (mostly the 'female' ones), being some kind of AI or void conscience or something like that, but is bound to the Operator (a shota or loli) in the same way a normal frame is. She has a bit of autonomy, but all in all must do as the Operator commands.

I don't know if anyone would be willing to play an operator for her, however.

Would love even more if the Operator commanded her to bang his/her kubrows and kavats (dogs and cats)

>Decide to make a character for a fantasy setting

>"Oh, I'll base them in a setting like Persia just after the Islamic conquest!"

>I've spent three days watching videos and reading up on Zoroastrianism, the status of women in Sassanid Persia, and drawing a map.

Autism is suffering.

Necro'd

It's a canon character, but yeah. There's a lot of self-pity, but that's really internal stuff that gets worked out through the course of the manga.

The sad part is, that's pretty accurate. I have the character's backstory all sketched out but I haven't been able to do shit with him.

Does this font thing look as retarded as I think it does or am I being paranoid?

 No.128072>>128076

>>127989

These fonts mostly all fall into either "readable but ugly" (southeast), "pretty but hard to read" (Tribals and Melekh). The text on Cuithar is fine, though the decorated capitals don't work too well on darker colors like the purple, and the text on Arvandid is readable, but looks more like dying sharpie than brushstroke to me.

The faux-Arabic in particular is not what I'd have picked. The line and superfluous dots really fuck with readability. As a graphic design grad, you're not being paranoid.

If you want a good map making tutorial I can recommend one/two. This is my early product of what I'm working on although it's changed sizably since (expanding southward, the north-east is a new continent) it just doesn't have the climates down so I am posting this old one.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwYUexL0zGS_Zm94NVVuaVNIdG8 - this is the tutorial, skip the rivers part and use this tutorial for rivers: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwYUexL0zGS_MGFQNlk0dktNR2s Also skip doing the oceans beyond the cloudiness and blue overlay until you are 100% settled on the land. TO give you a sense of how much my map editing has changed over the year I've worked on it the non climatic map is what I originally started with. Only that SW island and the not-greek peninsulas are carryovers, everything else has changed.

Decline_and_Fall_of_the_Sasanian_Empire - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwYUexL0zGS_RmhYYzIyMEh4Nzg is a very dry and academic but very informative book on the decline and fall of guess what empire?

I'll post some tidbit thoughts/ideas from my readings and interest in the Persians shortly.

>>128084

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwYUexL0zGS_YzFnc09yamh2ZGM is another tutorial, though I wasn't as big on it.

I'm not as familiar with the period right of the conquest, save that:

-Azerbaijan/Media Atropatene region produced a lot of resistance movements galvanized around pseudo-Zoroastrianism with communistic themes. Babak Khorramdin and Wandad Hurmuzd.

-Similarly Zoroastrians or other affiliated groups likely maintained majority in populace in the South of the Caspian region (Gilan/Mazandaran) until the 11th/12th century or so.

-Abbasid centrifugation of power in the 9th century onward led to the flowering and re-assertion of Persian culture with the various Iranian dynasties (Samanids, Buyids from Mazandaran, so many others I forget the name of) or Iranianized Turkic dynasties like the Ghaznavids.

-Arab chauvenism by the early Caliphate and Umayyad dynasty led to the Iranian support and Persianization of the Abbasid revolution. The Persianization of court ritual and practice by the Abbasids (exemplified by the switch of the capital from Damascus to Baghdad) is well noted, as is the rise of Persian bureaucrats and courtiers and concubines leading to Caliphs who were not so Arab-nationalist in their background or thinking.

-I believe the dekhan/diqhan minor gentry (think a knight in terms of social standing. Not a large land-holding nobility but a more modest one) were at the forefront of the Persian cultural flowering during that aformentioned period.

 No.128087>>128198

>>128085

-Sassanid prince Peroz III and I believe others fled to T'ang China and found a supportive structure and welcoming asylum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peroz_III

-The iranian speaking sughdians were a hugely important and influential people in the Central Asian region prior to the Turkification in the later medieval period. Along with the gandharans they pretty much single handedly brought Buddhism to China, were the predominant merchantfolk in that proto-Silk road and lived in sizable numbers in China. However, they tended to disappear following the later An Lushan (half turk half Sughdian. Lushan is siad to be the sinicized version of Roxanne/Roshan, the Iranian term being bright or noble or brilliant) revolt that devastated T'ang China in the 8th century.

-There was a major disconnect since the founding of the Sassanian dynasty between the incredibly lucrative but barely (if at all, really) Iranianized Mesopotamia province and the poorer but more militarily fertile Iranian plateau. Mesopotamia was overwhelmingly Christian, Jewish, and minor sects to the point that outside of courtiers and your visiting nobles at Ctesiphon I am skeptical there were much of any Zoroastrians in Mesopotamia. Definitely doubt there were any among native Aramaean-speakers.

-Christiainity was also making steady inroads among some Iranians. It wasn't at a point of replacing Zoroastrianism but I know some of the last Shahenshahs had wives or sisters or mothers who were Chrisitan.

Thanks for the help, m80. Finally making progress on this character. Also fucked around and made this map in photoshop, which probably needs to be remade but is a lot more detailed than the shit I was using.

Still needs to be edited down for length and I need to finish the other three sections of the profile, but that's the bulk of the work done. The rest should come pretty easy.
