Every fucking time. I talk to someone for weeks or months. I invest my time and effort and emotions in them for hours every day. We like each other a lot and everything seems perfect then one day out of nowhere it all suddenly breaks down. They come up with some stupid bullshit reasons why they're not ready for a relationship, and it's so obvious that it's all in their head, it's just them getting in their own way and sabotaging themselves because they're mentally ill and carrying so much baggage.

people keep talking shit about LDRs, but they often fail to realize that some folks just can't have a regular relationship due to either anxiety or a slew of other possible reasons.
so yeah, often the people who are looking for a LDR aren't entire "stable", but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to feel some kind of love and affection that is beyond platonic.

It is a very subjective and specific thing that not many people would call "healthy" or "sustainable", and that isn't really "talking shit" but what I would say perfectly fair criticism.
Sex and physical interaction in general is strongly associated with love for the intrinsic obvious reasons of being human.
Being able to overlook that and appreciate online interactions to the point where you can call it a romantic relationship is a hard thing to achieve, and for most people just isn't enough.
Maybe it works for you, but I think it's safe to say that it certainly doesn't work for most.
I'm getting old and I've had my fair share of distance relationships. There was a point where I didn't really care too much wether it'd be distance or irl, but lately I've been feeling some amount of regret
for all the years I've thrown away chasing the dream of sustaining any kind of relationship over distance.

Another thing that might play a role is my personal association of using computers mostly exclusively for work.
When your interactions with people is effectively the same methodology as working, just talking to people starts to feel like a chore.
When I take a break I want to leave my computer and do other things, because believe it or not once hammering away on your keyboard becomes an obligation you really start wanting to get away from it.
My current (distance) boyfriend who I suspect reads my posts here can probably confirm, as he gets a fair share of being ignored and disregarded when I'm busy.

The second one ended because he had no intention to go past LDR. unlike the other two i was in this one feels much different in that this one actually has a future which i want more then anything. As they said i do get a fair amount of being ignored and disregarded but it's not without reasons and i understand them, when it started i did get quite upset but after a while i've learned to mostly deal with it and not take it to heart, there are times when it does get to me for some reason or another and i get upset but i do feel like an idiot when it does and apologize when i let it get to me.
At the end of the day my experiences has taught me is that you've got to find the right person to make it work and actively move past LDR stage. I believe i have found that person and even though it's taken a bit longer then agreed which i regret the most i would never tell someone not to go for it even if it is a LDR. From what i've seen from the people i've met on here is that most people would go for a LDR but as you said they probably won't visit, date and move in together eventually.
