any cuteboys into horticulture and gardening here?

pic related is my setup

 No.325900

Not really into it, but for some reason I find this really cute.

 No.325905

Would like to get more into it to supplement my cooking hobby. Probably not something I will put too much work into until I get my own place though.

My parents on the other hand put an insane amount of time into their garden. You'd almost think it was a botanical garden just from entering it. Plenty of fruit, herbs, and some veggies to use in cooking too.

 No.325911

>>325895

I love growing herbs (actual herbs, gtfo ayylmaos) to use in cooking. Especially herbs that only work fresh/can't be bought in stores, like chervil. However, I don't have the time nor the space while in college.

 No.325915

>>325911

if you have them money they sell mini hydroponic gardens on amazon, there kinda pricey but they work and can go anywhere

 No.325944

Not into horticulture as I have no own place but the idea of having a fridge sized hydroponiv farm at home as a hobby is endearing.

All I have is a bonsai ginseng. Really low maintenence but I love it. When I get my own place I want plenty of plants or a garden.

 No.326000

That's the most adorable thing. That's the stuff that would make me like someone even if I didn't know them. Much more important than good looks but they are important

isint ginseng herbaceous though thus making it unsuitable for bonsai?

im confused how one would do bonsai on a herbaceous plant.

>really like using spices creatively

>lately preferring salads to meat

>but afraid of plants

>can't grow, can't wash, can't chop, can't handle

>have to ask someone else to do it

>can't ever fully and freely integrate vegetables in my cooking

>won't ever be able to grow my own herbs

>won't ever be able to have my qt farm

Vegetables are hard to do well I find, especially when you don't just want some obligatory greens rather than a nice part of the meal. You got it good in SA though, I bet vegetables are plenty, good and cheap there, here it's expensive and everything's been in a shipping container for 2 months/grown in a barren wasteland

> blaming one's own taste for luxury's shortcomings onto others

That's because you're eating out of season! Sweden makes really delicious apples for instance and such other things but obviously if you want bananas in the middle of winter those are going to come from the other side of the planet, but whose fault is this?

Just google for a season chart and follow it (what grows when).

 No.326219

>>326218

you want a see a season chart for sweden? here it is:

winter: kale, onions, potatoes, beets, 7 kinds of cabbage

spring: cabbage beet, beets, onions, carrots, potatoes, 4 kinds of cabbage

summer: beans. cucumber, onions, broccoli, celery, 6 kinds of cabbage, carrots

etc.

i shit really good but i want something more than cabbage and beets

Sweden has access to the common EU market so you need to take this into account.

Your list is not complete. As I said, Sweden is a big maker of apples. For other fruits, see Netherlands, Germany, Spain.

 No.326237

I love it!

I have a tent which I use to grow rare stuff. Do both hydroponics and soil gardening. Also have a worm farm as well.

op here,i managed to go to an orchid show today to pick up my orchids i wanted

they are

a chiloschista viridiflava

a psychopsis mendenhall

and a maxillaria tenuifolia

each one is really special and hard to find normally, especially the viridiflava which is also special because its a horticultural oddity because it dosent have laves nor does it need them, its literately a ball of roots that stick to the tree it grow on and lives there,it uses its roots to photosynthesize

the psychopsis is special because its flower spike lasts for up to ten years, constantly reblooming from the same spike over and over again, this is why you NEVER EVER cut a psychopsis flower spike otherwise it will wait like 10 years before making a new one.

the maxillaria is the least weird one of them but nonetheless its special, its flowers smell strongly of coconut,so strongly that a specimen sized plant with 4-5 flowers can fill an entire industrial greenhouse with its scent let alone a small house.

so happy i got them finally <3

 No.326683

>>326682

oh,forgot to mention the viridiflava is only a tiny baby plant, the big ones were upwards of a hundred so i got a baby seedling to start.

so cute.

I'm really into minatures and models, and that's bled into how I like to garden. I also cook a bunch, so I usually have a few herbs at the ready. Right now I'm starting a few from seed, but it's really slow going.

Whoa, they are so cute!

So, I guess you're mostly into succulent plants? Try out dioscorea elephantipes (it's a cute caudex plant with vines) as a standalone, and certainly one of the following:

- faucaria tigrina (it's cute due to how it's leaves resemble tiger jaws)

- euphoribia obessa (it grows as this roundish green ball without thorns)

- titanopsis calcarea

- Euphorbia inermis - it's small and cute at first, but in years, it can grow expontentialy and it's an investment for live - and it has tentacles~

On the offhand, anyone else got into banana plants? Recently I got several seedlings - mostly musa ornata, musa dwarf cavendish, musa yunnanensis and two of musa velutina. It's fun how fast they grow and change. The only issue is additional light source, but thanks to Ikea, I have that figured out.
