Seeing Katana randomly in so many place with no explaination whatsoever makes me start wondering about her past again. But the only media I can recall is the one where her past is actually elaborated on somewhat in the cartoons.
Did she become a significant character in the comics? I started reading bunch of batman/dc stuff and she hasn't popped up very often.

Easy to film/animate, doesn't need much CGI beyond "sword flashes every now and then" and it's free diversity points.
Her lack of backstory, or rather lack of expanded backstory, means they can write her in very easily without much set up and can have her do a lot of stuff without going against her canon exploits.

It looks really fucking boring. I expect it's going to be even more of a downgrade from Season 2 as Season 2 was from Season 1. Even the animation looks cheap and rushed.
It's like Greg Weisman still hasn't learned the lesson after 2 fucking decades that you can't just do random time-skips, leave plot threads hanging and introduce new characters and relationships at will and still expect the audience to give a crap.
I genuinely expect this shit to tank because looking all around the usual forums, the level of interest seems nowhere near high enough. And then DC will basically never give any other, far more deserving shows a chance of revival ever again.
