What's your opinion of the DCEU?

 No.989610

>>989609

Dead in the water.

 No.989611

>>989610

^ this. They blew their load too fast. They were too sloppy. They misread the entire blockbuster landscape. At this point it would be easier for them to start a completely new "Cinematic Universe" than it would to try and salvage this shitheap.

 No.989656

>>989611

>^ this.

Look at that, a redditor.

 No.989662

Basically they hired Snyder and gave him full control to build the universe and the last and only time this happened was when he made Sucker Punch so…

Wonder Woman was okay though, I liked how they developed well the idea of Diana learning how real life is and break some cliches on superhero media while pushing a message about hope and altruism, a message that Man of Steel failed to deliver

 No.989728

honestly, i think they should cut their losses and pivot to animated films. make their 'cinematic universe' fully animated instead of attempting to dethrone marvel on their own turf.

just start again from scratch.

 No.989731

>>989662

Snyder gets too much hate. Goyer did as much if not more damage - after all, it was his scripts that Snyder adapted. Goyer seems hellbent on making everything dark, serious, and bland. He despises too fantastical, silly, or light-hearted aspects of comic books. He is a no fun allowed faggot, and as long as he is around DC films will be bland and dull.

 No.989736

>>989731

>Snyder gets too much hate.

Nigger he was literally the person in charge of the whole thing. The whole schtick that was supposed to separate the DCCU from the MCU was the idea that one Director was going to have executive control over everything to give it a consistent tone for the whole franchise. It's is impossible to blame Snyder too much.

 No.989748

I want to like them more than the MCU, they're clearly trying but they're failing so badly

the mcu is at least consistent

Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy decided the direction of the DCEU. Nolan was both a writer and producer for Man of Steel. Nolan was an executive producer on BvS and Justice League.

As for rebooting AGAIN, fucking no.

 No.989788

>>989781

No, Nolan just made Batman movies and had little to do with Man of Steel and did nothing for BvS and Justice League. You do know "executive producer" usually means shit, right?

 No.989790

>>989781

This is all bullshit, they just mentioned his name for the other movies because Dark Knight got so much fame. The other shit shouldn't even be mentioned along the Nolan Batman movies.

 No.989803

>>989781

>As for rebooting AGAIN, fucking no.

The Flash movie is going to be Flashpoint.

 No.989814

man of steel and WW were the best, the rest is shit. BvS was the worst. League was meh at best.

 No.989816

>>989814

MoS was shit.

 No.989821

>>989788

I wouldn't call writing and producing credits on Man of Steel nothing. Even if exec producers usually do jack shit, BvS brought Batman back. There's no way Nolan had his name associated with it without being involved at all. He was part of the conversation, even if his input was informal. He could've sat in on meetings or been consulted.I would be very fucking surprised if Nolan had absolutely no input on Batfleck.

 No.989850

It was something, to bad the product turned out bad.

 No.989931

Its dead Jim.

 No.989942

>>989781

Being Executive Producer means jackshit, even more when in the same time span with the recent DCEU, he Brixited with making Interstellar and Dunkirk.

 No.989946

>>989821

He only did the story, Goyer wrote the script.

 No.989962

>>989781

Executive Producer means you help secure financing by promising people it'll be good and you have faith in it. Executive just means you report to board rooms and shit.

As for rebooting, I'll post what I always post:

Give out money to known directors and give them free reign on who/what/how they adapt, make everything standalone and only let them be connected if the directors want them to be, otherwise using the classic multiverse plan.

 No.989963

>>989962

Hell, they should go for the 52-route like the comics are going with. 52 universes, plenty of adaptations of their IPs and they can one-up Marvel if they manage to get Batman vs Batman, but pretty doubtful, WB isn't in the financial and even creative state to do this.

 No.989965

>>989609

Oh, there is that betrayal of some of people who were cast in the DCEU going to act in Marvel movies while shit talking DC and saying "I was always kind of a Marvel guy" with Lauren Fishbourne getting the part of Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp, it's dead.

 No.990001

>>989963

>52 route

Nah, Convergence undid that and they're back to infinite, but they didn't really do anything with that. All it did was make the universes that were destroyed by any Crisis-level event come back as canon.

WB has the money, easily. They spend $15m on animated films that barely scrape enough to break even. They can afford to give the same amount to smaller directors to make their own twist on the characters then give $20-50m to more known directors.

Films don't cost as much as Disney would make people believe. If you cut out the paychecks going to actors, Infinity War probably cost a half or even less of their actual budget, and that's a blockbuster, while WB could be making street-level movies more like Daredevil with Ben Affleck.

 No.990004

>>990001

>If you cut out the paychecks going to actors, Infinity War probably cost a half or even less of their actual budget

I looked it up. All the actors excluding RDJ got paid 400 million to be in both movies (Part 1 and Part 2). The budget for the first movie was 400 million.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman are the surprise hits that will keep it alive several more years while all the other films in the franchise crash and burn around them. Tom Cruise as Hal Jordan could be entertaining. I really hope the Captain Marvel "Shazam" movie isn't as terrible as the set photos make it look, he really deserves a break in the age of the Carol Corps.

Well the TV series already did it, I would imagine a Flash sequel movie could attempt it if they were truly desperate.

>>999416

Look at what worked from the DCAU and talk to the teams behind those series. They created a fucking shared universe long before the movies, so why not get their advice? Get Dini, Timm and that 3rd guy every forgets as consultants. Don't fucking darken the visuals and try to keep it accurate to the comics whenever possible.

Quit.

 No.999502

What's DC got left anyways? From what I can see most of their recent animated movies have been mediocre to unremarkable(with the exception of Batman Ninja but I'm too biased towards that thing to say anything negative about it) and I think Arkham Knight really put a bad taste in the mouths of anyone who enjoyed the other arkham games.

If I were in Snyder's position, I'd immediately abandon the idea of a shared universe and substitute it with an occasionally shared universe.

A shared universe works for Marvel because 9/10ths of their characters were made by the same two guys, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, plotted by Stan Lee. DC, however, is a mess of different characters and different creators, each bringing a unique voice. It would be stupid to try and smash all that into a single mold, so why not make every movie their own thing. A Batman film looks and is written like a Batman film, a Superman film looks and is written like Superman, etc. Each film would have their own style, giving each director just enough creative freedom to make films for the character, not the shared universe.

Then, when we would bring all of these characters together in a Justice League film, the unique styles created for each of them would really sell it as a group of different heroes all banding together to save the world. It would capture that feeling people want from team-up movies, like Robocop teaming up with Godzilla and Sherlock Holmes to fight crime.

>Superman movie starring Bruce Campbell as an older figure a la Kingdom Come. Directed and written by Coen Brothers, starring Jeff Bridges as Magog. Jeph Loeb as consultant.

>Batman and Robin directed by Sam Raimi. Richard Armitage as Bats, Tye Sheridan (because I liked him in Joe) as Tim Drake.

But I think the DCU got way too impatient in wanting to catch up to Marvel. They blew their wad twice with barely any setup or planning with BvS and Justice league and I think they're currently in a situation where they're in a very difficult position, with not much going for them.

I'd agree that I'd currently abandon the idea for all these bombastic crossover events and focus more on smaller, more focused movies.

And honestly outside of Cavill and maybe Momoa I don't particularly like any of the cast, particularly WW(in both a look and acting sense) and Flash(in an acting sense). I think the entire suicide squad cast is a complete joke, especially Waylon Jones who I thought would be at least interesting but was acted by some jumpy retard who thinks over exaggerating every single motion he does is good acting. Leto is garbage as Joker, Will Smith should retire.

Start building up Batman from the ground up, focusing more on his relationship with Robin and Alfred, give development to some lesser known characters and rogues. If there's one thing I can say that BvS did really well, it's that one scene in the warehouse where Batman saves Martha Kent(aside from it breaking the no kill rule). It was brutal, really meaty and satisfying to watch action and I think with a decent story and buildup behind it an action scene like that would make a perfect climax for a solid movie.

The Flash seems like a gold mine, because personally and from what I can tell the most standout parts of the latest X-men movies were the quicksilver parts. With the wrong people, that sort of thing will get old faster than Flash himself. With the right time I bet they could do wonders with it and have it stay fresh and entertaining for a considerable amount of time.

The problem is that everything I can think of boils down to "get the right people for the job".

Hire people that are excited and jovial at the opportunity to do the source material in a movie. Allow them to go pretty crazy, but temper their enthusiasm a bit with the focus of making it all for general audiences. Then, once you've made a successful movie or two, actuually begin a cinematic universe.

 No.1009976

Because the CGI is so bad, "Animated" would be a stretch in those movies.

Man of Steel

>Didn't show Supes

>Had fun dragonball fights

>Enough promise that they might turn it around in sequels

>If they actually did it right they didn't

Man of Steel 2 or Justice League 0

>Supes was bad, and his supporting characters were worse

>Batman was crisscrossing between good and bad, ended up bad

>Wonder Woman was good

>Lex and Doomsday were terrible

>"Why'd you say that name ?!!?"

Suicide Squad

>Harley Quinn tits only reason to see it

>Music video cuts hid just how bad it was

Wonder Woman

>First two acts decent enough, Diana and Steve were great

>Villians sucked onscreen, and the WWI is totally WWII, but we didn't want the Captain America comparisons tarred that half of the movie

>Last third devolved into generic bullshit, and retroactively made the movie worse

Justice League

>Couldn't watch finish it

>the Flash was just that bad

>CGI was worse

>and Aquaman announced to an entire village that Batman was Bruce Wayne

Doesn't help that every DCEU movie has an animated movie that is either on par, or better.

Just a reminder, the woman in charge of DC Entertainment was effectively fired for Justice League. Their initial plan was to reboot with Flashpoint, but that requires people liking their Flash. So they're apparently going full multiverse, independent stories after their current crop of Shazam, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman 2.
