It's hard to equate Captain Marvel as a ripoff since the book came up most of the tropes associated with superhero comics.

Darkseid, like most Jack Kirby characters, suffered when separated from his creator.

In THE NEW GODS, Darkseid was a paper-tiger. He was feared above all others, but without that fear he was nothing. His "honor" was merely a pretense and was routinely dropped for his underhanded and cowardly schemes. He avoided direct confrontation and preferred to work in the shadows. Darkseid was completely without scruples. A butcher that pretended to be a god.

This was in stark contrast to his son, Orion, a brave and noble warrior. Fearless and savage in battle, yet loyal to codes of honor and willing to lay down his life for his friends. Orion was in many ways the man Darkseid wished he was, so for Orion Darkseid had nothing but hatred, and fear.

 No.980859

DCAU Question isn't the source of Rorschach nor is spic dyke Question, urban shaman Question, or zen Question. Ditko's Question is the only incarnation of the Question that predates Rorschach, unless you want to go back further and point out that he was really recycling his earlier character, Mr. A, when he made the Question.

>and point out that he was really recycling his earlier character, Mr. A

Mr. A came after The Question.

You can tell because Mr. A is the "answer" to The Question.

 No.980870

Shit joke tbh.

Anyways, Mr A was first published in Jan '67 and The Question was first published in Jun 67, so 5 months apart.

Nobody's noticed that Miracleman's direct "source" was not Superman, or Captain Marvel, but Marvelman, a very cheesy ripoff / unofficial "continuation" of Captain Marvel created by Mick Anglo after he lost the rights to reprint the actual Captain Marvel (due to complications over the lawsuit by DC).

Of course, the original Marvelman is good clean fun and not grim and gritty, and is therefore superior.

The original Marvelman was also set in America, not England. Great research there, Moore.

 No.980901

>>980845

Maybe we should have a storytime of classic 70's Thanos, before he got the gauntlet.

 No.980911

>>980889

He is Marvelman you idiot. They only changed it to Miracleman because Marvel were breathing down their necks threatening to sue

>The original Marvelman was also set in America, not England. Great research there, Moore.

The whole point is that the original Marvelman adventures were simulations that didn't actually happen. You'd know that if you actually read it.

 No.980912

>>980859

>DCAU Question isn't the source of Rorschach

DCAU Question is nevertheless superior. Of course you could argue that it's an instance recursive adaptation. In other words DCAU Question ripped off Rorschach which ripped Ditko's Question (and Mr A)

Who are these rip-offs of?

 No.980927

>>980925

Swamp Thing you could argue is a rip-off of Man-Thing or you could reach back earlier and say they're both rip-offs of the Heap.

Don't know who he might be referring to for Daredevil and Elektra.

 No.980929

>>980927

Never knew about the Heap.

 No.980932

>>980925

Swamp Thing was a rip-off of Man-Thing

Daredevil was a rip-off of Spider-Man, according to Frank Miller at least. He called him 'The poor man's Spider-Man'

Elektra is a blatant rip-off of Sand Saref, The Spirit's girlfriend turned villain

I'd say Daredevil is more of a ripoff of Black Bat, a pulp character from the 30's. He was a D.A. that was blinded by acid then decided to go fight crime.

 No.981039

>>981038

Though I guess as far as the way he fights crime, Daredevil is closer to Spider-Man.

 No.981814

Well of course. Starlin basically admitted to aping Jack Kirby.

Posting from phone so dont have image, but add The Authority to the list. They were so much better than the Justice League, DC used editorial interference to kill the book at its white hot peak.

Wasn't Mongul Jim Starlin's substitute Darkseid when he wasn't allowed to use the real thing?

You could probably make an argument for Lord Papal from Dreadstar being another one.

 No.986169

>>980821

Wasn't Thanos supposed to be a Metron rip-off originally? Hence why he floats around in a technologically advanced gadget-chair?

>>986151

To be fair, Mongul is a pretty cool Darkseid knock-off and isn't really that obvious unless you look really closely.
