Where should I start if i'm interested in Spider-Man but never read any of his comics. /co/ have any recommendations or preferred runs?

 No.965923

The only easy place to "start" due to how Marvel works is by reading Ultimate Spiderman. It's good for a large majority of the Parker run, but it's up to you to keep reading once Miles takes over. Other than that, your only hope is to read bits and snippets of the comics at a time, small events and crossovers that are so intertwined with the rest of the comics that they don't make a lot of sense unless you already know Spiderman mythos.

with few exceptions, Spidey almost never hit outright bad status

his early comics are great silver age fun, forcing the newly minted Steve Ditko to quickly improve his art skills after the premiere issue and providing entertaining action with just the right amount of drama for a teenage Spidey

so start at Amazing Fantasy #15 and just go for it

The Stan Lee/Steve Ditko stuff is good, if a little early-sixties-weird in the same way old Archie comics are. The Stan Lee/John Romita Jr. run is really strong, so is the Peter David run, and the David Michelinie one.

After that it all just kind of fell apart.

The graphic novel Hooky, with Bernie Wrightson, was good. So was Kraven's Last Hunt.

Spider-Man 2099 was good until Peter David left.

Please ignore Trouble and One More Day. Avoid the fucking clones if you have to chew your own leg off to escape like a fox caught in a trap. Todd MacFarlane's adjectiveless Spider-Man looks gorgeous, but is written by a virtual illiterate. John Romita Jr. has an A game and a B game, and sometimes draws with his pen clutched in his asshole like in Sex And Zen.

Read Ultimate up until Ultimatum, Death of Spiderman ifvyou really have to, and the JMS run up to One More Day.

For the classic stuff, obviously Lee/Ditko.

It's classic Spidey until Ultimatum happens, then it turns shitty and it ending with Bendis' fan fic bull is fitting.

Also the 9-11 issue for laughs

Would the JMS run be considered good?

I wonder how Doom will be like when new FF comics start back up.

Kingpin upset at 9-11?

Upset he didn't sell his shares before the market crashed with the WTC, you mean.
