Any work that he could have "touched" prior to his death could be fixed up, for future releases, but anything that was already released would get a "grandfathered" lenience since I think he actually "owned" a good stake in it for as appose to Rooster Teeth. So no one could be sued now. I don't know how "suing the estate" works though, but considering early RWBY works was mostly and entirely free, I don't know if Sega could even claim and infringing, or if it would even be worth pursuing. The biggest loss of technique I see is having one motion flow into the next. Watch how often they simply drop all their inertia and then magically re-generate more in another direction. You can actually tell where the individual animations start and stop, like a videogame. Compare with Ruby's flowing scythe motions in the Red trailer. Which seems to be related to the problem you mentioned; needing to continually reset their models and hope you don't notice. It's particularly egregious whenever Qrow swings that wedge he calls a sword.
Monty was a dancer before he was an animator. He knew how momentum carried through the body.

Ever played Final Fantasy VIII? - An idiot whose heart is in the right place and fight in a way that is somewhat lacking compared to his companions. (Zell and Jaune)
- A girl who's overly energetic to the point of annoyance, wields a bludgeoning weapon and tries to insert some levity into the story. (Selphie and Nora)
- A hot blonde teacher whose weapon of choice would not be out of place with a BDSM session. (Quistis and Glynda)
- An overly cute girl with special powers who turns out to be very important to the plot and has a dog which is launched at the enemy at one point. (Ruby and Rinoa)
- A headmaster who plays everybody like fiddles and seems to know the true villain pretty well. (Sid and Ozpin)

And that's discounting events like the whole fight on a train, the military academy being invaded by monsters, the important person in the basement of said academy, the murder of an important political figure and so on and so forth. All of that seems pretty familiar, no?

Rwby is more like those ratty 1996 junkmobiles with fire decals, 22 inch rims, and spinners. There's no air conditioner, the radio is missing, engine makes weird noises, but it runs and it'll get you to the destination, in this case being the end of the story, it's just not a very pleasant ride

They should of made their 3d models that doesn't rely on hard cel shading, which is much easier to do, even if stylized.
3D cel shading is pretty hard, especially if you want to achieve a 2D look like anime, because it requires both heavy knowledge of 2D (the results you want) and 3D (how you can create those results very relatively).
Soft shading is much easier because you don't have to autistically manipulate normals etc. as much making it more lenient.
The only downside of using soft shading is that your models look "western" (like in Chibi) due to the shading/AO giving off a realistic look, and it doesn't look good on Chibi imo because of the art style/models looking Christopher Hart tier. But I think it's possible to do something like a semi-realistic-anime style in 3D. Even if it doesn't look the "best", it would be hell of a lot better than that shitty game texture style.
I hope I don't sound like an ideas guy talking out of his ass; I thought it was fun thinking of ways a low budget animu made in burgerland would work. what do you guys think
