I'm really enjoying the new story arc. The show was fun for the first 15 episodes, but the hour-long episode 16 "Queen for a Day" really seems like a "season 2". It's definitely a big pivot for the show. To really appreciate QfaD you need to have watched most of the earlier shows, but in particular episode 8+11" would be a must.
I wouldn't say episode 16 is as much about deepening Raps (episode 17 probably does a better job) so much as a couple secondary characters. I actually welled up at one point… that determined look, the untangling, the tearful smile… by gawd. Also the TURN.
Episode 17 "Painter's Block" builds on something hinted at in ep 16, finally a main villain for the show, and he seems pretty scary, although it is primarily his servant ghost-witch who is dealt with here, who full-on quotes Ursula and is mind-controlling townsfolk to open an interdimensional portal to free an evil sorcerer with devilish elements like ram's horns.
