It's the perfect setup, really. Especially since Tilly made it abundantly clear that she'll do anything.
If I was suddenly given control of this comic, I'd write up a complete 180 and generate some good old fashioned sexual tension. It'd start with Tilly being really invasive and offering to clean Hannelore in the shower, brush her teeth, dress her, stuff like that. It'd peak off with Hannelore getting hot and bothered one night with fireman porn or some shit, and Tilly, hearing the noise, would come in and insist that she take care of her needs.
They'd enter a sexual relationship, kinky shit ensues, and it'll pave the way for some dirty humor down the road.
Then Bubbles would have a short, go insane, kill the tranny, lifting the spell that has fallen over Marten. With newfound freedom, he would return to his true form, reavealing he was actually Donald Trump the whole time and an old witch with bright red hair and problem glasses cursed him.
He would then get elected president, and firebomb Whereverthefuck Massachusetts.

Honestly, no. Not because pronouns are actually reasonable, but because humans are fucking insane. Any AI that's critical enough to get to those questions would have noticed thousands of similar things long before and not be that naive about it.
Concepts and words never map cleanly to the real world. The map is not the territory. There are always edge cases, semantic tricks that use non-central examples, arguments about things that are actually arguments about definitions of categories, an endless stream of horrifying flaws in human communication.
Even biological sex can't be cleanly distinguished in every case. Gender is just one more categorization that's more trouble than it's worth, and that humans can get upset about if you try to make it consistent. There's tons of those.

Think about it, he puts on a pozzed facade, cranks out a minimal effort comic on a regular basis, and people just throw money at him indiscriminantly. If there's something they don't like, he just tweaks things around a little bit to distract them.
It could even explain the stabbenings. Doing this kind of job and catering to these kinds of people would fuck you up mentally, especially if you didn't really believe in it.

I think the majority of these virtue signalers don't really believe it and are using the in-group as cover. But within these phonies are those overcompensating for their own insecurities or indiscretions and those leveraging the cognitively weak for profit. Back in the 80s and early 90s, when [Neo-]Evangelicalism was at its local peak, I observed a number of people talking the talk but were obviously in it for the social connections and other goodies. But these types of groups have no self-policing; merely profess your love for Jesus or smashing the Patriarchy and you pass the test no matter what you do, even literal rape or murder.
>money is the only thing keeping him going at this point
Not only is he trapped but he's been there for some time. In this context it's understandable that he's doing everything possible to limit the time investment in this comic, especially when his audience is so undiscerning. Deep down, this has to hurt. It's a bit like getting free meals. It feels good to eat but you did nothing to earn it. I think Jeph actually fancies himself as a high-brow writer. Even if it's not true and he's deluding himself, he has to know his audience is full of rubes.

Perhaps he's so starved for something to actually struggle against, that when the audience tries to have their way, he is trilled to have some resistance. Like Kaczynski said, resistance is an important part of the power cycle (I think that's what he called it) and if we can do anything we want without resistance, everything loses its meaning.

That's not how those things work. She's probably rationally aware that it doesn't matter that the panties are mixed in, but that doesn't stop it from feeling terrifyingly icky.
Getting over that kind of mental illness is not simple, and maybe not reasonably possible at all. If you're a billionaire heiress then replacing your entire wardrobe is not actually costly, relatively speaking, especially if you don't live the billionaire lifestyle.

Well, let's challenge that. OCD is about checks and control, right? Is Hannelore doing everything she can to check and control the environment? No. She could be using her own washing machine. >OCD is about checks and control, right?
Not exactly. OCD is about specific more or less arbitrary compulsions.
I have a few OCDish tics. When I touch something with one side of a finger, or step on something, I often feel a strong need to balance it out by doing the same with the other side of my finger, or the other foot. That's related to the environment, but it's not a generalized compulsion for checks and control. It doesn't extend to every possible form of control over the environment. It's also not rational. I don't believe that satisfying my tic is somehow the right thing to do, I just feel a strong urge until I do so, a bit like the urge to scratch an itch. It goes away when I'm done.
Hannelore not getting her own washing machine is a suboptimal decision, but it's the regular every-day kind of suboptimal decision, not the kind of decision that would be impossible given OCD.
Pop culture OCD is almost completely unlike actual OCD.

Jeph skipped a few steps on this one, but this is his MO: introduce long-haired female with something of a personality, cut her hair, give her horrendous clothing, give her ugly body mods, make her fat, make her passively aggressively "sassy", and strongly hint at lesbian relationships.
It is funny how about half the fan community noticed how lazy Jeph has gotten with his characterization and were rejecting this one until he dropped the gender politics and now they love Poochy. Okay, let's say I grant you all of that. Is Jeph actually consistent with your understanding or does he use superficial pop culture OCD? I'd be surprised if it was anything but the latter. Regardless on whether or not my personal explanations are accurate, these behaviors don't seem real to me, and it's a problem because it's central to her character. Actually, at this point, there is nothing to her character but this loosely defined and, in my opinion, poorly executed "OCD". Hannelore is one of multiple characters who is coasting through life where jokes are made about them having no (realistic) life goals. And it's not because of the OCD, it's because Jeph doesn't want to box himself in by introducing determinism. Better to leave things vague for when he gets "zany" ideas like turning Hannelore into a Bitcoin daytrader or something.

Well, I'm sure glad Jeph is taking some time out from that emotional roller coaster of a story to tackle these issues that really matter.
Could this be a slight hint towards Winslow making Tilly completely redundant if he just gets his shit together?
Or is that just me putting more thought into this story than Jeph ever has?
Aside from that, it seems Jeph's trick of making Tilly a special to deflect any criticism seems to be working on reddit, as they are currently in the process of devouring themselves, trying not to offend this saintly figure with her magical pronouns.

Jeph used to put some thought into this kind of thing–for the first dozen or two appearances at least–but I guess he's gotten so used to his praise-in-a-bubble that he got lazy and is unable to justify this character to an increasingly skeptical audience. He was warned: at best, acceptance of the Deux Ex Machina Bot that "resolved" the Bubbles memory thing was 50%. People were also lukewarm at best with the end days of Alice Grove. But, what does it matter? No matter what he does he pockets at least $10k/month just from Patreon alone.

That would be too clever. I have certain particular… groups I'm present in that requires me to be around this people, and I have found a single defining characteristic among them: They're all starved for some form of attention, whether that's love, a good relationship with your parents, sex, or just friendship. They want people to pay attention, and not just that, but take exception to them. It may be consciously or unconsciously, but ultimately they do it because they want people to put enough effort into paying attention to their pronouns.
Oh, and messing them up is the best for them. You either apologize for the mistake and they get an ego boost from you saying sorry for not putting enough effort into caring about them, or they get to take out their issues on you by reprimanding you.
The one exception happens to be FTM Trannies. Most of the ones I've met would actually be cute were it not for wanting to be a guy, and as such they usually want you to pay less attention to them, take them for granted.

Try putting Fetlife into the Hub's search bar, you'll get some good stuff.

All this "empathy" and no thought to mom's point of view. She runs a technological empire, basically the Mega-Apple of the universe, and has a criminally underemployed daughter. From mom's point of view, leveraging the daughter isn't a big deal because she isn't doing anything meaningful anyway. While employed, Hanners is effectively a NEET and her mother is treating her as such. This is something near universal with parents. It's like sending your stoner gamer son out on errands because you don't really care about his frag count in Call of Duty. Yeah, it's a violation of your kid's sovereignty but your kid is being kinda worthless.
As for leveraging Tilly, who really cares? It greases the wheels and the NEET daughter's already easy life gets even easier. I mean it's hard to argue that a service isn't being done. Obviously someone involved in something like this isn't going to be an A+ talent anyway–and we already know this is the case. Tilly is the Hanners of another company.

It doesn't make sense to me why Hannelore is so assblasted about getting a free assistant. All she had to do was tell Tilly to wash the bathrooms, something menial that deals with muh germs. There's no reason to feel bad for Tilly - she's annoying and volunteers for chores that Hannelore likes doing herself. The only way Hannelore would react so negatively to her mother's request would be if she had a bad history with her mother, but no such history has been covered that I remember.
I guess if Jeph wanted to write an interesting story, he could go in to the unrevealed history between Hannelore and her mom, but this whole thing is apparently about consent/freedom. The mom should cut Hannelore off for revenge.

It's far from unanimous, but there are multiple Reddit posts along the lines of, "See! You were wrong to hate Tilly! Just look at this masterful writing!" At least one of them was smart enough to realize that Jeph rejiggers characters around feedback. Most of them think Jeph plays some sort of 4-D chess by making characters do what they think they should when Jeph has a "month long buffer".
>The whole thing reads like it was penned by someone who can't remember what he did the previous day.
We know this is the case. Jeph can't keep his own lore straight, not even in the short term.
>Maybe he even confuses himself so just decides to end it quickly before moving on to something else.
Yeah, like Alice Grove. Jeph seems to take the George Lucas approach of having a vague idea that's even less than an outline. He goes forward until about halfway through the second act and then realizes he's written himself into a corner and needs to abort. Pretty much all of his plot lines follow this format, which is why all the resolutions are abrupt, short, and often seemingly out of nowhere. I think the out of nowhere parts were originally supposed to fit in but Jeph has no idea how to use the second act to bridge to what he wants to do in the third. He just writes introductions, a sudden climax, and then retrospectives on an event lacking impact.

Just another way these people deny reality. It's funny, they make fun of Christians and their non-scientific view of dust-man and rib-woman and their immortal souls but ultimately they have the same exceptionalism view just in different, even more nebulous terms. In reality we are objects and we are its. "Objectification" is a nonsense concept, even moreso when you get the associated baggage on board, e.g. "If you objectify humans then you are calling for violence." Says who? It's not like I mindlessly attack my car or PC. This shit is expensive and I want it to last. How is this a negative? What's funny is I value these things more than whiny leftists so they should be complaining about sub-objectification. Even a napkin that I use for a moment and then discard has more value to me than most of these people.

Shouldn't she invest in a $15 coffee pot so as not to spend so long outside of work, even if it really is getting the coffee and immediately leaving? These are the things you really need to think about when launching a business. It's after something like five years when the boss can start lollygagging.
And, yeah, why is the sister in this particular coffee shop, especially when she knows there is no real expectation to find Faye there? "Negged" in this context is in the "dad" vernacular now but it comes from the PUA community as a tool to land otherwise unobtainable women, which is ironic given the muh women's rights kinda guy Jeph is. The idea is you "neg" her in subtle ways in an attempt to reduce her perceived status, which, hypothetically, raises her attraction level toward you. Not that machines which don't need to eat or sleep or take any breaks are being put in jobs a human needs? If there is *any* human unemployment at all in QC-ville then that will be a point of tension if they see a robot, which had to be specifically built to meet a demand, is working in a shop - a job which a human could really use if fortune has dealt them a shitty hand.

To be fair, as soon as Fembot technology advances far enough, that's likely what most of the board will be investing in, at least according to the general opinion on 3DPD around here.

This actually brings up an interesting idea. Somewhere out there, there's a "Programming Entertainer"who writes lines of code with the express purpose of pushing an AI's operating system to it's bizarre limits without breaking it, like the people who make ROM hacks in old games. AI's download these programs and run them in order to experience new, unpredictable, and exciting things.

There's no tolerance buildup, no physical crash, no negative health affects, can be turned on or off at a moment's notice as the situation demands, and has no overhead costs past possibly an initial purchase of PCP.7z. There's no reason for robots not to run around high 100% of the time. Aside from that, if robot minds are well documented enough to create a 1:1 synthetic analogue to the effects of THC and orgasm chemicals, why do they have a need for psychologists?

To provide expositional filler so authors of shitey webcomics don't have to resolve any of the relationshit drama they've spent years introducing and never resolving :^)
Which raises an interesting question; why is he doing this now?
We've had robots in this comic since the beginning and robo-relationshit for over a year and only now he decides to answer some of the questions, the answers to which may have been interesting ages ago it when it was more pertinent?

You know, I almost WISH that Jeph would make this Robosexuality thing a big fucking deal, and oarade around the prejudice against it, and Trannies, but exclusively left lesbos and fags out of it, because I would like to see the broken logic Jeph uses in action. I want to see him justify why Robo-Lesbianism can be played out for cheap drama but no one can touch normal lesbians. I want this to be a matter of National/Skynet security that if Faye fucks a robot it will mean Hitler VII comes to power and, I want it to absolutely bomb with fans so Jeph has to bend over backwards doing some crazy-ass bullshit logic on why this works even when it clearly doesn't because that would be INTERESTING.
But I know, Jeph is just a spineless asshole that makes money off of feelgood libcuck stories and Patreon. It's like Bike Cuck/Shen, who knew he could make interesting stuff, but it wouldn't relate to people, so he did the "So Bad, Me Sad" comics and it worked in his favor until Bike Cuck. Except Shen at least admits that's what he's doing, Jeph is so utterly asinine as to think he's a genius for writing things that are so "relatable."
Also, it occurs to me that all this cheap drama is the perfect backdrop for a [B I Z A R R E A D V E N T U RE]. Almost all of Jeph's shitty writing can suddenly be made interesting if you apply JoJo logic to it. Now I want to run a tabletop campaign in QC-verse even more.

You'd need some serious creative liberty to make that even remotely interesting.

This stupid comic does get a lot of criticism for forced relationships (such as Marten and Clarence) but it just seems really obnoxious to me to have even the cast try to force a relationship right now.
Wouldn't it have much more impact if the situation developed by way of Menstro talking to Faye a lot more about its "feelings"?
Or have Faye herself come to a gradual realisation and not know how to deal with it?
This also, once again, shows that all lesbians can ever talk about is lesbianism, and more fucking lesbians.
I'm starting to think that the whole theme of the comic now is "starting relationships." I mean, how many relationships have been started but never actually concluded? It happens all the fucking time, now.
Or perhaps Jeph is fully aware of his audience and their insatiable lust for shipping. They do punish him for trying anything different, that's for sure.

I was pretty naive when first discovering their forum and their no shipping rule. I thought, "who gives a fuck about this?" and then I saw the fandom holy wars in every other property. I thought shipping was something like, "It'd be nice if X hooked up with Y" but it's actually, "How DARE you disagree with my OTP! You make me want to commit suicide! My death is on YOU! Fuck you! Fuck you FOREVER!"
Later I thought, "Yeah, a no shipping rule makes perfect sense."

Please, if anyone is getting the raw deal here it's Bubbles. I mean, by Jeph's standards Bubbles may as well be the best character in the series right now, since Hanners has fucked off. Hell, of anyone's issues in the series, Bubbles is the most justifiable because she's a soldier. Also she's cute, like a bashful Orc girl on /tg/

All this makes Menstro sound less and less suited to ever being a combat robot.
What's the fucking point if they can get so morose and angsty?
Anyway, I think this whole plot line is over a year too late. Right now it just comes across as desperate scrambling by Jeph for something to appease the "fans" and stop them from pulling him apart for another month.
Relationshit, in the middle of more relationshit, to take a break from the other relationshit, just removes any impact it may have had.
No.964083

Menstro may be the best character, whatever, but "safe" isn't a word to describe it. The thing is volatile both in emotion and lifestyle. It is one step from being a vagabond on the run from the law.

>it just comes across as desperate scrambling by Jeph for something to appease the "fans" and stop them from pulling him apart for another month
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing right now. This has echoes of the trappening where Marten's dad's wedding would have been the time to bring it up but since it cooled off then there was no reason to remain invested. The pacing is also absolute shit, even by Jeph's standards. These diner strips are so claustrophobic, both in panel layout and setting.
No.964107
Makes me think that what we need right now is some Marten actually having a relationship with Clarence. Since You're Beautiful we haven't really seen much of them on their own, away from the others.
I think it would be an interesting contrast between them and Faye with Menstro. On the one hand we have Menstro who struggles to actually express emotions; on the other we have Clarence who can only force exaggerated emotional responses and generally acts like he's in a constant pantomime.
