https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2017/09/sjws-rush-to-defend-gi-joe-comic-writer-as-fans-call-for-firing/39766/

>Social Justice Warriors across social media and the Leftist-entertainment media sector have come out of the woodwork to defend IDW Publishing’s G.I. Joe comic book writer Aubrey Sitterson after the fandom have been calling for him to be fired for a number of offenses they deem unprofessional.

>Things started with Sitterson making what many claimed to be insensitive tweets about mourners of 9/11, politicizing the event and turning it into a Left versus Right issue.

>Various people, especially veterans who serve in the armed forces, saw the comments from Sitterson as more than just a social media peccadillo. The umbrage taken up by those in and out of the comics industry eventually culminated in harsh criticisms from a number of people calling for Sitterson to be fired, including army vet Zack from the YouTube channel Diversity & Comics, a niche outlet that reviews and usually criticizes Marvel, DC and other comic books for their SJW slants.

It seriously amazes me how this is even an issue, nobody is reading this shit and GI Joe is a dead fucking brand, so why is everyone at each other's throats?

I get the GG fags need something to do seeing as GG has been dead for two years now and as someone who followed that shitshow from start to end, I can safely say that it was entirely pointless.

The shit websites these faggots fought against still exist and Zoe Quinn has faded into obscurity.

Sitterson is going to be facing repercussions because the GI JOE fandom went direct to Hasbro and IDW and made it known under no uncertain terms they want him gone. Most comic book readers who are against the sjw shit are cucking out and saying they don't want him fired. How did the new GI Joe comic change into this? Last time I checked Krake took over as Cobra Commander and conquered a small east asian nation and was planning on conquering america. Getting them fired isn't the same as censoring them. You're not robbing them of their freedom of speech, you're just depriving them of their livelihood. However, it is hypocritical to decry sjws getting someone fired and then openly celebrate others getting an sjw fired, in both situations, because of their speech. You would enforce the very type of chilling effect that you originally fought against.

But this is all ridiculous. IDW isn't going to fire him. They'll get rid of him once they have a replacement then quitely not renew his contract. In the process, IDW gets a bunch of buzz about their G.I.JOE books, getting it exposed to new audiences, and armchair warriors will feel smug satisfaction, unaware that they just fed the monster they were trying to destroy.

Telling a company that you don't want to pay them to hire some talentless chucklefuck is certainly not censorship. If anything it's voting with your potential buying power, which they need badly. IDW isn't publishing books that are flying off the shelf, and some faggoty numale hipster turning a retro IP into a SocJus soapbox is just bad for business, especially because nostalgia is big business right now.

It shouldn't be this hard to communicate this sort of sentiment to a company. "Hey, please stop wasting effort on this book. No one wants to buy it because the writer makes terrible shit and makes me not want to support you" should have any half-decent company concerned about improving their image and sales. Instead, we've got a barrier of tweets and shitty articles saying nigger-hating turbo Nazis want to lynch an innocent man for daring to assert that black people can be heroes.

Already you have several misunderstandings.

First, you think that comic readers are the customer in the comics market. They are not. Comic shops are the customer, as they're the ones that buy the books. Comic companies could care less about what the readers think. Your buying power only hurts the shops, not the Big Two.

Second, unless something really big happens, shops will keep buying it. They need diversity of product to attract the new customers they desperately need. In addition, non-Big Two titles are stuff they can afford to take risk on, as the sales of DC and Marvel keep the lights on.

Third, anything you do will be used against you. Comics are in dire need of attention and they can spin anything you throw at them as a selling point. Say you hate the book, BOOM, Mary Sue article out praising it and saying it's under attack by evil Nazis. IDW gets press and a new line to sell the book to shops. And that's bush league stuff. They can spin anything. I saw DC spin the outrage over a character's death as a selling point. There's really no winning with them.

With that in mind, I can say your strategy is flawed. They feed on any ounce of attention you give them, and by engaging them, you only serve to strengthen them. I can tell you this is what they want. The comics media have attempted several times to start their own "comicsgate" to harvest our much needed attention. Do not be fooled.

The best approach, in my opinion, is neglect. Do not fight with them on social media. Do not acknowledge them. Laugh at them from the safety of anonymity. If you must contact them, do it through email or snail-mail, as they far harder to build buzz on.

Only though our collective disdain will we defeat this monster.

I agree with most of what you're saying but you have to admit that the way comics pros behave on Twitter is absolutely ridiculous, beyond the pale, and it's amazing any of them still have jobs.

*pause*

Yeah, I get it that "being upset with what comics pros say on Twitter" is in and of itself ridiculous. But then when you actually see how these people behave on Twitter, it's actually gone beyond what should be possible in a remotely sane society.

Pros openly insulting fans while their industry burns down, pushing away anyone who doesn't agree with them 100%, doing 0% promotion of their actual products but 100% anti-Trump stuff all the time, literally telling most of their potential customers "fuck you", openly supporting violence against police in the service of "trans rights", calling for insurrection, etc.

It's like "Why are the writers of friendly cartoon characters allowed to do this? Why are their corporations not firing them?"

It's different when actual celebrities with big followings and market value say something like this. If Stephen King or JK Rowling insult Trump twenty times a day, or if some legit famous actors say half the US is retarded Nazis… well, those people actually still have many millions of dollars worth of pull.

But mediocre (at best) comic creators whose products are hitting record lows? Um, I don't want "#comicgate" but it is actually quite a jaw-dropping curiosity.

>But mediocre (at best) comic creators whose products are hitting record lows? Um, I don't want "#comicgate" but it is actually quite a jaw-dropping curiosity.

It's a phenomena often referred to as "Roll left and die"

An ailing business, usually news but not always, identifies they're declining. Rather than attempting to fix this decline, the powers that be decide to "roll left" and start injecting hardline leftist opinions into their work. Does this stop the eventual death of the business? No. But it make it appear as though the people who failed did so because of their political opinions. They then seek employment with other companies that share said opinions because "we failed because we aired your opinions" is a hell of a lot more attractive that "we failed because we're incompetent".

Please note this is not always true. Even healthy companies will spout leftist rhetoric if they think it would give them an extra dollar.

>That's like saying "people don't buy the products, retailers do!"

In the Direct Market, the major distribution system of comic books, shops purchase the books from the distributor (Diamond) at a lower rate in exchange for not being able to return them. Thus, at the end of the day, regardless if it sells at the shop, the comic company has already made a profit. This makes comic shops the "customer".

Now, I'm assuming your not buying any of these comics, which means you're in no position to assert your buying power to get shops to stop carrying these comics. After-all, you can't stop buying something you weren't buying in the first place. Of course, you can spread the word to tell others not to buy any of these books, but because the vast majority of the population do not read comics, they also can't stop buying what they're already not buying. Worse yet, you would spreading public awareness of this niche comic that most people aren't even aware exists.

All of which would be counter-productive. SJW books are doing terribly and the next shallow pandering cycle is just around the corner. The market is washing them out, and it's stupid to risk reversing it simply because the impatient young braves want a fight.

 No.923200

>>923116

First, distributors gauge interest by sales. Considering IDW is 1) small, and 2) selling like shit right now because comic readers hate their books, comic companies have to care, because believing they can foist off the books on distributors when they aren't selling will close even more comic stores.

Second, shops are not buying it because it's not selling. This was straight from the horse's mouth just recently when Marvel's executive said no one is buying the "diverse" books, and if the big two aren't moving books, then shit like IDW doesn't stand a chance.

Third, they'll write those articles as long as they have at least one tweet that confirms their narrative, even if they have to fake it or treat a couple shitposters as a nazi army. You can't win a PR war with the goddamned media.

>Do not fight with them on social media

>If you must contact them, do it through email or snail-mail

The only intelligent things in your entire post. Too many faggots try to use controversy to score e-fame by hoping their criticism video goes viral, or they score some followers on twitter for shitposting at some talentless hipster hack. The easiest way to affect these companies is to contact their upper management types and tell them directly that the shit their authors are doing are directly influencing your decision not to buy their books.

>You can bitch and moan about wanting ComicGate all you fucking want, it ain't gonna happen. Nobody cares if someone said some stupid shit on a garbage website.

Actually, they do care. The stuff with D&C is getting picked up on larger and larger websites. The "milkshake" shit was picked up in major news sources, but of course that was reported from the other side.

But I don't know who's "wanting ComicGate", what that would even mean, or what the point would be. These companies obviously aren't going to change, but the semi-organized fan-opposition to them actually serves the purpose of hastening their demise, because the companies and writers double down on their b.s., driving more fans away faster.

>Because Marvel doesn't make it's money off of comic books, they make their money off of the movies and GI Joe isn't relevant anymore

You mean Disney doesn't make money on Marvel comic books? All the more reason for Disney to cancel the entire operation, the same way Disney canceled its video game arm.

IDW obviously makes money off GI Joe comics. Their financial report came out a few days ago, though, and they're making 90% less than they made last year. It's not like Hasbro keeps having IDW make GI Joe comics "just because". It's not like the only reason there were toys or movies in the recent past is because IDW was keeping the brand alive. That's not how this works.

The public doesn't go see these movies because there are active comic series of them. These things can go away, and they will go away, due to low sales. Whether there is mass gossiping about it due to "some stupid shit on a garbage website" is kind of irrelevant, but you're factually wrong in thinking that there isn't a large audience interested in hearing about it, for whatever that's worth.
