>thankful
In the past decade, it would be:
<Genndy getting two AdultSwim shows
<DC Animation experimenting a bit
<Many European and other foreign comics finally getting translated to English in mass quantities
<Marvel's and DC's duopoly being threatened by manga, digital services, and crowdfunding
<Venture Bros still going
<Independent animation getting some traction again
<Pixar losing a bit of its sacred cow status
<Diversity push backfiring on Marvel and DC
<Emergence of a handful of new indie publishers
<Bendis' series at DC tanking
2019 was pretty lackluster compared to other few years
>not thankful
There is quite a bit for the past decade:
<DC's and Marvel's shitty practices
<Horrid adaptations
<Comics made solely to create IPs for horrid adaptations
<Animated Spider-Man movie introducing notion that constant, sub 20 fps animation is acceptable
<Everything Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. have made in past decade
<Multiple scanlators leaving, disappearing, or drastically reducing their activity
<KATs demise and killing off its scanner community and many good comic compilations
<Saga's rise to popularity
<American indie comics market becoming homogenized and as obsessed with fad-chasing as the big two
<Forced diversity push and big two not learning from it
<Blatant use of comics as propaganda platforms for political causes
<Black Mask Studio's creation and continued existence
<Bendis still getting work for some reason
<Bringing in celebs and ecelebs into comics
<Social media witch hunts
Again, 2019 felt like a pretty slow year overall.
>predictions
I think that a lot will change in the next ten years. Marvel and DC might finally lose their dominant position and will need even more help from Disney and DC to
>Very strong anti-piracy push that will result in people going back to torrents as multiple non-torrent sites will be killed
>They will attempt another round diversity pushes and they will backfire eventually
>Marvel movies becoming stale, and people will finally begin to lose interest towards the end of 2020s
>American comic market will increasingly shift towards graphic novel format
>Foreign comics, especially manga, will continue to get more and more foothold in the market
>Current 'calarts' style usage will decline and something else will take its place
>Pixar will decline
>Jodorowsky and VanHamme will die
>projects you are looking forward to
There are not many. Most anitcipated woud be Les Indes Fourbes finally getting its English translation. Other than that I am looking forward to another Genndy project, Venture Bros, and whatever Xavier Dorison is going to write next.
