What were the best and your favorite comics and cartoons in the past year and the decade? Is there something you were thankful for, or perhaps the opposite.

What do you think will happen in comics and cartoon industries in the upcoming year and decade? Any projects you are looking forward to?

I'm glad Samurai Jack came back and love Primal. I'm hoping we get more variety in art styles for cartoons rather than just the potato head noodly arm art style CN and Disney keep pushing. That and maybe more indie created stuff gets popular.

>thankful

In the past decade, it would be:

<Genndy getting two AdultSwim shows

<DC Animation experimenting a bit

<Many European and other foreign comics finally getting translated to English in mass quantities

<Marvel's and DC's duopoly being threatened by manga, digital services, and crowdfunding

<Venture Bros still going

<Independent animation getting some traction again

<Pixar losing a bit of its sacred cow status

<Diversity push backfiring on Marvel and DC

<Emergence of a handful of new indie publishers

<Bendis' series at DC tanking

2019 was pretty lackluster compared to other few years

>not thankful

There is quite a bit for the past decade:

<DC's and Marvel's shitty practices

<Horrid adaptations

<Comics made solely to create IPs for horrid adaptations

<Animated Spider-Man movie introducing notion that constant, sub 20 fps animation is acceptable

<Everything Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. have made in past decade

<Multiple scanlators leaving, disappearing, or drastically reducing their activity

<KATs demise and killing off its scanner community and many good comic compilations

<Saga's rise to popularity

<American indie comics market becoming homogenized and as obsessed with fad-chasing as the big two

<Forced diversity push and big two not learning from it

<Blatant use of comics as propaganda platforms for political causes

<Black Mask Studio's creation and continued existence

<Bendis still getting work for some reason

<Bringing in celebs and ecelebs into comics

<Social media witch hunts

Again, 2019 felt like a pretty slow year overall.

>predictions

I think that a lot will change in the next ten years. Marvel and DC might finally lose their dominant position and will need even more help from Disney and DC to

>Very strong anti-piracy push that will result in people going back to torrents as multiple non-torrent sites will be killed

>They will attempt another round diversity pushes and they will backfire eventually

>Marvel movies becoming stale, and people will finally begin to lose interest towards the end of 2020s

>American comic market will increasingly shift towards graphic novel format

>Foreign comics, especially manga, will continue to get more and more foothold in the market

>Current 'calarts' style usage will decline and something else will take its place

>Pixar will decline

>Jodorowsky and VanHamme will die

>projects you are looking forward to

There are not many. Most anitcipated woud be Les Indes Fourbes finally getting its English translation. Other than that I am looking forward to another Genndy project, Venture Bros, and whatever Xavier Dorison is going to write next.

Well, this decade had some things to be thankful like the rise on independent works with less executive intervention, more interest on the European industry, some actual good adult animation and more experimentation.

But then you have:

<Disney trying to take over everything under sun

<Marvel and DC shitty practices becoming more shittier

<Superhero movie saturation to the point they the public expects ALL movies to be exactly like them

<Political bias and obsession

<Mindless consumerism on the rise

<Comic book industry falling apart

<Indies becoming nothing but pretentious and "socially aware" works

<Ridiculous censorship

<Mediocre shows being praised like the second coming

<Animation still being considered nothing more than kids entertainment

<Animators being treated like shit

<Calarts and the animation industry becoming more and more a circlejerk

Now for some predictions:

>Comic book industry finally crashes

>Europeans try to break into the American market opting for the movie adaptation way or with collaborations with Marvel and DC properties (some of them are already doing this)

>It won't work and the constant pandering to the American public could start their own decline

>More creators go self publish often being really zealous to give their rights to companies

>Manga keeps becoming popular so much than it totally eclipses any other type of comic same for animation

>The MCU bubble finally explodes and this mark the end of superhero movies

>Disney becomes so big that implodes within itself due to the constant in fighting between all the studios and divisions

>More push for streaming, people get tired and piracy becomes the norm

>A movement to ape from Art Deco will surge, called "Neo Deco" or something like that. Don't expect anything good since it will be a bandwagon to artists to jump in and it will have nothing that made Art Deco good

>A lot of works taking place in the 20's will rise Lackadaisy will finally get an animated adaptation?

>Animators are still treated like shit

>Calarts will be finally replaced with an even cheaper style

These two will likely be at least somewhat linked if they come to be. Art Deco is pretty easy to bastardize. Most 'artists' already seem to think that all there is to it are rigid and simple geometrical shapes. They will look at Bioshock 1 and 2's simplified versions and use them as templates while infusing it with current flat and minimalist art.

Art Noveau might be another victim. Bastardizations of Alfons Mucha's art are already a thing.

>Animated Spider-Man movie introducing notion that constant, sub 20 fps animation is acceptable

For hand-drawn animation at least, 12 FPS is high enough. Most people look at it and think it's 24.

Didn't Bendis almost die a few years back? Couldn't the doctors have just been a little less competent and not saddled us with another decade of that baldy fuck?
