With the success of the movie & a cartoon series that's one of the few original properties that's actually an action cartoon, how come Marvel hasn't brought the characters back? Does Disney own the rights to them completely? Or is it just typical Marvel Comics incompetence?

Its a little of everything and the source material and current shows/movies are two completely different animals now. If marvel brought them back theyd have to be the disney era for the sake of recognizability, if disney wanted to adapt more character theyd have to modify them drastically to fit the tone.

Not like the average person who watches superhero media actually reads the source material but fair point. Probably also explains why Disney has to make up a whole new rogues gallery instead of bringing in Marvel villains or even having heroes cameo.

They probably dont want to mix their peanut butter with chocolate. They'll probably introduce Silver Samurai eventually but beyond that its a wild guess.

Now that Disney owns Fox and all the X-men properties with it, I can imagine they'll shoehorn a new version of Silver Samurai eventually. Sunfire maybe down the road too. He's never gotten any love though.

The movie was pretty shit. Like Zootopia, it was rewritten with a bland story to trivialize its setting.

Obviously they'll have to change a lot if they're gonna keep it separate from the rest of the Marvel properties.

It did need more to it's Japanese fusion setting but the cartoon series thankfully does much more with it than the movie.

It needed to be more in-line with its source material. All they did was grab the initial concept, names and title, then threw everything else out.

Well that too. But after so long, I barely expect anything to look even remotely similar to it's comic source material.

Its a double edged sword but for Big Hero 6, its more like they pulled a Ed Gein and made a mask out of the source material.
