No one will be able to pull it off right. I don't know how to say it without being a fag but the original Jack Kirby team had a sort of earnestness to it, the designs of a lot of the characters are lame as hell if you look at them objectively with ridiculous name and weird designs but when told in the way they were originally presented it could all be taken in stride, I really can't imagine anyone let alone the current leading assholes actually doing anything to be truthful or respectful to the source material while also not making it completely shit.

New Gods seems like something that will be stuck in development hell and then canned. There is no way to do it right with the current state of the movie industry. King and Ava DuVernay do not seem like good fits for one another or the movie.
Someone like Del Toro would be better. Adaptation would not be faithful, but it would look good and be watchable.

You can't be a fag if what you're saying is right. The New Gods was Kirby's magnum opus, and the comics industry has yet to fully grasp what Jack Kirby was doing.
It's hard to emphasize just how ahead of his time Jack Kirby was when it came to The New Gods. He told a complex, lore-heavy story, spanning four different titles, that he envisioned being collected into trade paper-backs before such things even existed in the comics industry. Even Kirby's production of it was forward thinking. Kirby hired assistants, such as Mark Evanier and Steve Sherman, in hopes he could pass on to them his Fourth World projects and take on a more editorial position over his creations.
The New Gods is still far too advanced for the industry's current understanding of comics, and film studios' understanding of comic book movies. This is why anything New Gods related is doomed to failure.
