Is Blacksad meant to represent a black guy or is it just thinking too much about a world where racial tensions are based on fur color & not skin/race?

Blacksad wasn't "black" until the second book.
In the first one black people where represented by reptiles, but the writer retconed it so darker fur represented dark skin, which is fucking stupid because some animals can change fur color, like the arctic fox guy from the second book.

That's why I kind of lean towards the belief that's it's over thinking to think that the animals are supposed to portray real races & not just animals anthropomorphized with their own issues of fur/feather/scale color. Especially since some characters are made to look obviously like black people but Blacksad doesn't. Neither does his sister or nephew.

The second book really got retarded with all that shit, it just didn't make sense. Look at Blacksad's nephew >>1061295 by the logic of the fur=race what is he suppose to be? Even Black and his sister have white patches in their bodies so that means that they can choose to be white or black when they want to? What about animals that don't have just white or black fur? What about zebras? Really stupid.
Also, the writer shared storyboards of the next volume not long ago so they are definitively doing a volume 6 and there's also the videogame in the making but it seems that nobody cares about that one.

There's also characters who represent other non-white ethnicities but don't have dark fur, white characters who have dark fur and so on.
Not to mention, despite being a black man in the 50's, Blacksad himself doesn't seem to face much discrimination. He pretty much goes anywhere he wants and everybody thrusts him right away.
It makes no sense.

Yeah so maybe it's not meant to be exactly portraying our real world with animals. Rather just how the world would work if there was animals instead of people. Y'know I that also leads to a bigger question. What does everyone eat if every animal is sentient?

Because it is overthinking. Authors just used fur as an arbitrary and minor characteristic that characters relied on as a basis to separate each other. My takeaway from it was that they authors were trying to show how ideologies can use any small difference to divide people and cause violent conflict. And this went for both sides, considering that black panther equivalents aren't saints either.
Not to mention >>1061302, which is also a very important point.
Besides, if white fur=white skin, then what about brown, sable, red, beige, gray, blonde furs and feathers, or any mixture of them? What races would blue feathered parrots or a green geckos represent?

Either tofu, pyura chilensis, some mystery animal, or red meat visual imitation made of seafood, plants, or something else. Logistics behind how the world works were clearly not the primary concern for the authors, given how many undersized and oversized characters there are, but nothing to accommodate them.

Blacksad is supposed to be a black Marlon Brando expy, which explains the behavior (and opens an entire can of worms in it's own right), but still doesn't explain how little discrimination he faces in a time where lynchings were rampant and the Jim Crow law was in full force.

>How do they accomplish this and why do americans can't replicate it?
>Flexible deadlines
Books with intricate art usually take at least a year between albums being released. That gives artist and writer plenty of time to plan things, do them, refine it all, and to wrap everything up. Books on shorter schedules usually have more simplified artstyles, but even then art is rarely lazy.
In U.S. monthlies are the default, and artist are too incompetent to keep up with the deadlines without reliance on processed photos and 3D models.
>Higher standards
Most Europeans still have standards when it comes to art too. It could be due to art schools in Europe (that are not in Germany, UK, or Sweden) actually still have serious art programs, with serious requirements, where students must learn fundamentals to pass. More common exposure to fine arts certainly helps too. Going to theater, museums, art shows, and cultural festivals is far more common there than in the U.S. Things like national or regional art competitions tend to happen more frequently too in my experience, and Europeans in general simply respect art and have more appreciation for effort that goes into producing quality work. All of that is scarce or even absent in the U.S.
>Money
Top artists in Europe seem to be better paid than top artists in the U.S. Rosinski draws/paints one album of Thorgal every year or two with some other small project on occasion, and he makes very good money - comparable to a high end and well known doctor. American artists who make comparable amount had to grind through monthlies, and then graduate churning out variant covers, get royalties, and supplement their income with commissions.
Promise of high standard of living likely makes European artists try harder. In America they strive to get money off of capeshit royalties.
>More experience with the medium
Most European comic book artists seem to have better grasp and appreciation of the comics craft than Americans. It is most likely to them reading wider range of titles, most of the with quality art. Most American comic book artists grew up with capeshit or shitty fanart online. Since Americans primarily consume that slop, that's all they know and its harder to break beyond it.

I think people expect it to be a Telltale ripoff, which is an impression that might not be far off the mark. The stiff animations and line about "do I really want to go down that path?" reek of the cheap, bad writing which sunk that studio. I pirate everything, so if the game is bad then it's no skin off my back, but there's real potential for a good game here and I'd like to see the series continue.

I was planning to buy it to support the series anyway. I learned from Lastman that if it isn't japanese or insanely popular it will very likely get cancelled mid series.
Also that animation is fluid considering it's a small time game based on a niche comic series, but the lip syncing is very ass. Which makes sense because it's supposed to be in french not in english.

Lastman wasn't cancelled. Final 12th volume is coming out at the end of the year in France, and that's how long creators planned out the series to be from the start. If you are talking about English translation, it was due to purchase of publishing rights. Lastsecond bought rights for initial six volumes and that's what they published. If they will get the rest, it will probably be after 12th tome comes out. That way they can get a bulk deal again.

Honestly, the models look awful. The look like plastic dolls with awkward proportions, which coupled with the stiff animation makes them look kinda uncanny. Also, some of the fur looks like chunks of clay plastered over the face.
I think this game would have looked better if it was cell-shaded like these vids.
