Well, they did have those shorts after the 3rd which were okay It would have been a good animated cartoon of a kid having fun and the toys interacting in someway to their own problems if they kept the animation at an acceptable level since they usually downgrade the graphics for TV from their movie counterparts.
I think we only had that Buzz Lightyear cartoon for spin-offs besides the many shorts they've made before. An animated 3D cartoon seems like the logical conclusion while 4 seems like a real afterthought based on the summary. I get where they are coming from with the "anything can be a toy" aspect but the Spork character really looks lame in design. I know it's suppose to look like a kid made it but I'm not sure how much this type of character can hold up a feature length movie.

From what I'd guess she could actually be the antagonist. The third movie was a good conclusion and book end to the series, while the TV shorts were nice follow ups. I don't want a 4th movie (which then leads to a possible new trilogy). Wasn't the whole theme of TS2 either the descesion of being loved for another 10 years by Andy and then facing an uncertain future vs immortality behind glass in a museum but never being loved again.
While TS3 is the deal with the idea of winding up in a utopia of infinite love (being played with by kinder-gardeners forever more) by which turned out really be a dystopian prison (being roughly played with by the even younger kids) run by Lotso whose backstory is essentially the dark ending of TS1 getting separated from their owner, going home and finding out they had been replaced and having to escape while facing the decision of either stay there and get possibly destroyed or returning back to Andy and being stored in the attic (and have freedom and shelter but be unloved) or listen to Woody and go with Bonnie and essentially start the cycle again.
It's been many years since I'm watched them so maybe I'm not remembering them properly, there's similarities between the two but they aren't the same.

It's funny how these toys are about expanding your imagination with what you can do with them as a kid but the movies keep reusing the same kind of plot showing its lack of imagination. I suggested this before but they should have just done a series. Some made up adventure within the confines of the room and sometimes venturing out into the neighborhood and other places. Maybe involving the kid and her problems or something random. If you're going to keep bringing back Toy Story, at least do something new with the formula.

Bo Peep was sold off and escaped to live as a nomadic adventurer toy who rescues other toys. Woody joins her at the end of the movie, abandoning Andy's sister and family, so he can also be some kind of toy-rescuing hero that helps toys find new owners. Movie ends with Forky meeting Knife turned into a toy who asks why they are alive and Forky doesn't know.
Instead of having any kind of relevant message about the relationship between kids and toys, this movie is about toys being some weird magical spirits that need to attach themselves to kids to feel purpose, or something.
