>15 years later

>tfw chkla…

Let us talk about cartoons and comics that ended on an incomplete note that made us yearn for more yet at the same time made us fear wanting to see them again and be brought back in this day and age of disappointment and tainted media.

Let us revel in the bitter yet sweet grief of premature ends in cartoons and comics of days long past.

 No.1032407

Could they even bring back Clone High without triggering the loos anymore? That was one of the, if not the main, reasons that the show was cancelled in the first place. Things are already bad enough with Apu, and he's just a regular guy. Imagine what would happen if they unironically used someone that looks like a kid version of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the most famous activists of all time, and was named Gandhi as the butt of a joke or in a crudely humorous way. The outrage from that alone would stop the show dead in its tracks.

Oh they are but my point was that the Smurfs (the original 80s cartoon) also ended on a terrible note, but I'll get to that in a minute once I get some screenshots.

The movies are terrible too though and make Smurfs harder to enjoy. The plots are mind numbing, the characterizations are one-dimensional and deadpan, and the writing in the films is abysmal. The last one just ended the franchise on such a fucking horrid storyline with that Smurfette shit. Its like Sony is incapable of anything good outside of Hotel Transylvania and Meatballs, and to avoid any criticism they just throw in that shitty forced gay kiss at the end so they can label any potential critics bigots. Fucking Hell I hate that strategy and this decade.

>Could they even bring back Clone High without triggering the loos anymore?

Nope. Apu's death was the ultimate sign that things are fucked beyond reasoning. Clone High will never come back, but in the end its for the best. Look at all the things that have come back and become utterly fucked. Not just cartoons, but even movies, tv shows and don't get me started on comics. Only Samurai Jack was barely able to make it out decently much to my chagrin while somehow miraculously avoiding any modern SJW/PC standards.

Did you see it? Its almost as bad the live action ones except most of it revolves around a secret tribe of strong female smurfs hiding out in the woods (that's part jungle) that no one's ever heard of and most of it just revolves around that single plot point and a lot of toilet humor courtesy of bland character portrayals. The voice acting is even worse than the movie itself with the only decent performance coming from Clumsy Smurf. Then Smurfette predictably sacrifices herself in the most predictable setup followed by some bullshit revival where she poofs back into existence and the smurf and the girl smurfs live happily ever after, except for Vanity who starts making out with another male Smurf (The Hundredth Smurf) at the gay end, a Smurf mind you who he despised in the comics and cartoon for "copying" him. The animation was okay is the only good thing I can say about it but it draws too heavily from the other Sony animated films so it really doesn't offer anything truly unique in terms of visuals.

I guess I should say mine too right? I know Samurai Jack got an ending and I'm glad it wasn't as terrible as I had feared. Still, there was a time when I would not have settled for simply okay or "not terrible". I mean have things truly become so terrible that the best I can hope for is mediocre or okay stories? What a hell of a way to spend the final stretch. The comics managed to deliver on a truly great end and season 5 would've been better off just adapting that, but I guess that is too much to ask for in this day and age without risking something you love becoming abhorrent or tumblr trash. And speaking of tumblr, I still cannot believe what Voltron has become and how its being forced to end. Life is suffering.

Voltron was already kind of rocky. Didn't know how to balance the mecha fights well enough. So you have way too much poor animation full of stills. And character interactions that were entertaining but pretty shallow. Everyone was an archetype without true comradery. Then there's the whole problem with splitting up seasons and just calling batches of 7 episodes new seasons. It's bullshit. Just like how Netflix's Castlevania is just a movie cut into 7 episodes each "season".

It's much better for things to end properly on good notes than to drag on forever or to be rebooted into poor new versions. Just look at cartoons like The Simpsons, Spongebob, Family Guy, and even big two comics. Undergrads was something I wanted back when during the early days of MTV when they were doing cartoons after Beavis and Butthead like Liquid Television. Having the casts friendship break off at the end was a real downer of an ending but current year politics has satiated my curiosity of ever wanting it tarnished further. Sadly, it seems that it might be too late and it is getting some continuation in the form of a kickstarter movie. Maybe it might turn out okay and they will keep it within the time the story is set in and not involve any of the political junk of today. The only other problem is that its kickstarter funded and I've seen a lot of kickstarters crash and burn in how they manage their money. It's wait and see at this point and I don't have that high of expectations for it.

>>1032407

Speaking of being offensive and seemingly having the moral high ground on what's a racist stereotype. South Park calling out Apu when they have a racist stereotype like that Chinese Guy for City Wok. Also, let's not forget about what happened with Muhammad's depiction/ or no depiction when he appeared and was erased from the Super Best Friends. How about Episode 200 when they had a whole speech about this and it was all censored by comedy central? South Park being topical seems more like a double faced farce at this point. Trying to play both sides and being hated at both ends of the spectrum. I guess that would reflect their low ratings at this point because people are seeing through that charade now.

Hell even if she could resurrect Dark Ace after fucking obliterating him through channeling and making him into some kind of energy monster.

I wanted to see the crew upgrade their gear and their ship with Other Side tech. Improved jet engines on the bikes, Condor getting a makeover, weapons becoming more extreme.

But I'd never want the show back because I know they'll fuck everything up.

The sad tale of Pirates of Dark Water's cancellation is simply that the animation team demanded the best of themselves. This caused later episodes to face delays, which in turn led to the first cancellation.

When Fox picked it up for continuation, they continued to run into the same problem of taking too long to produce episodes, leading to the final cancellation of the show with 8 of the 13 treasures found.

It's still quite a good watch overall, with a pretty badass fantasy heavy metal design aesthetic, good storytelling, and substitute cuss words with construction behind them ("noi jitat" meaning not "fuck" but "holy fuck", as "jitat" is also used on its own in the show)

The best upload of it you can find nowadays is Ecclesiast's on TPB

Really, because, for once, it was placed on a stable network and Disney/Marvel clearly needed for it to succeed since it was the start of their new animation projects. The ratings were middling (Spectacular reruns did better than its premieres), but there was a lot riding on its "success".

There's been about… five or six? Five or six different distinct versions of this comic, and every one ended on a cliff hanger. Then Gary Chaloner stops, retouches the art, rewrites some dialogue, and does another soft reboot, or he picks up the story years later without resolving the old story.

If memory serves, the first Jackaroo stories were in Cyclone Comics, and shared a universe with the other characters from that anthology, mostly superheroes. Then a magazine-size collection was printed, with new material, and the superhero crossovers clumsily edited out, and copyright-friendly expies substituted.

Then an American reprinting, with new material, some stories reshuffled to fit the series format, and new stubble added to the Jackaroo's face. A couple of old characters were Flanderised, and more subplots were added and never resolved.

Then there were a couple of backup stories in other books, a crossover with Badger, and then a tabloid-size black and white soft reboot continuing the story years later with no resolution of the old plot. Then I think there was another printing of all the material so far but I'm a little hazy on the whole thing by this point.

I love Chaloner's art, but at this stage, after waiting 30 years for him to get his shit together I guess he's a compulsive autodidact and will never finish a damn thing.

It might just been a visual gag with no greater meaning, but I hope it at least brings a smile to your face to know they're free.

>OMAC

I really am bummed how that ended. Seemed like it could have been good fun, sort of like a lighter toned Judge Dredd. Atleast we had a few good stories out of it, and now it's relegated to the forgotten past.

Like a lot of Jack's stuff, it was a pitch for Marvel before they finally pissed him off enough to leave for DC.

Originally it was going to be Captain America having adventures in the future.

I would have loved to have seen that, and New Gods as the sequel to Thor, and Captain Victory as the sequel to the New Gods.

We did get a limited series of OMAC by John Byrne, but it was just another one of the fat man's attempts to rewrite everything that Jack ever did. Guess he never got over Jack and Steve Gerber writing him as a company man with a removable spine and no genitals.

This gives me some hope, not much.
