Media with executive meddling in it makes absolutely no sense unless the executive team are experienced creative artistic types themselves. Same problem with hiring non-artistic types/DeviantArt autists.

And I don't mean that subtle tender "change the costume a bit" kind of meddling. I mean when the whole executive team is the creative vision and they start to edit your script by themselves like a bunch of ego-centric fanfic writers.

Absolutely disagree. Artists are horses to your carriage, you have to have a clear understanding of where you want them to take you because if you let go of the reins you get spiderman's radioactive murder-semen.

Wait no I have a better one. You get webcomics. Any webcomic. Read a webcomic, look me in the eye and try to justify its existence. With some rare exceptions, but you get my point regardless.

Without control, we've seen time and time again that writers or directors will go absolutely nonsensical with their choices. An executive's job to meddle in that instance is to rein in the stupidity.

As seen in a vid in another thread, modern animation is what happens when you not only don't have top-down control, the people supposed to be doing the top-down control just sleep / fap in their office all day.

Still, we did all bitch about "the execs" "getting in the way of" "the creative vision" for years, so I guess this is the future we chose.

The company decides what work is to be done.

The Producer is supposed to ensure that work is being done efficiently and effectively.

The Director is supposed to ensure that the right work is being done.

The staff is supposed to make sure the work is being done well.

It's all a matter of balance and common sense.

A little bit of control from up top to prevent any of the creatives from going over budget/wasting money or not doing good work the first time around.

While creatives need some freedom to create what they want with good resources provided by adequate enough funding from the higher ups.

The old Renaissance patronage system is the best way to handle creative enterprise. A rich guy hires an artist to make something, gives him some more or less vague direction, and the artist uses that direction and his knowledge of both the subject matter and his patron to create something pleasing.

 No.1031801

>>1031800

Just giving them vague directions to do whatever they want is how you get the absolute worst kind of product. Especially from today's "artists".

Well, they need to live in fear of their patrons and/or never getting more work.

That's the problem. The bosses don't put their foot down if they're doing bad jobs.
