Why does he get such a bad rap? Visually, he's the best comic book film maker of all time. In all interviews, he seems like he actually enjoys comics and has real opinions on them, unlike a lot of directors out there that clearly get hired on a contract basis.

Lets go through comic book movies Snyder has done:

>300

100% accurate, basically the comic book on screen with cool music and kinetic action.

>Watchmen

Definitely adapted with a few changes, but changes that make sense. Visually (aside from the tacticool night owl suit) it's perfect. My only real complaint is that Snyder turned Ozymandias into a poofter.

>Man of Steel

Probably his worst film of the four, but there are a few cool elements. Clark traveling the world and saving people then moving on.

>Batman v Superman

In my opinion the best Batman movie ever made. He also addresses all the faults of Man of Steel

Overall, I'd say Snyder is pure kino, 10/10. Does anyone disagree?

Alright I'll bite the bait.

He's a pretentious faggot that doesn't understand the heroes he's working with. Much like Nolan. But they have different problems. Nolan got bored and doesn't understand how to do a "realistic" comic book movie. While Snyder thinks he's smarter than he is.

Just look at both of their versions of Batman. Nolan's Batman is a growling, easily broken, insane mess of a man that practically looks at himself like a savior figure but he can't even take down a simple man with a gun without getting shot and the same man killed. While Snyder made Batman into a psychotic unhinged killer who wants to destroy Superman because he's too dangerous with whatever potential power he has. It's made worse by the fact it's implied Batman was killing criminals with Robin way before Robin died. Robin's weapon in the display case isn't a bowstaff but a glaive of some sort. Batman is not a killer. He's never supposed to kill. Making this version of Batman a killer makes even less sense because Joker, Harley, Deadshot, Killer Croc, and Deathstroke are all still alive. If this Batman is a killer then none of these villains should be walking around. Especially not Joker or Harley considering they killed Robin.

That's why Snyder fails. He doesn't understand that Batman is supposed to be the noble hero that wants to save everyone he can while punishing criminals for their misdeeds. He's the judge and jury. But not the executioner. Even the version of Batman Snyder is basing his version on does not kill. Sure he'll use guns and is much more brutal than typical. But he doesn't kill. Even at his lowest point he can't give in to his darkness. Because Batman is better than a lowly killer. Better than the man who took his parents away.

>Batman is not a killer

Disagree, tbh.

Well you're wrong and part of the problem.

Don't forget that on a basic writing perspective, Batman killing makes the movie worse. If instead Batman had never killed before, but he felt this one case was so incredibly extreme, he was finally going to break his no kill rule, it would have been more poignant for Batman to want to kill Superman. Instead, this is just another dude he has to kill. It's like if you tried to right a Punisher story where you were supposed to be shocked Punisher felt he needed to kill who he thought was the bad guy.

Snyder is literally the only director to make capeshit that I didn't sleep through.

Because I care about good writing and wish Batman could be one that higher level again.

The fan edit of Watchmen that removed the slow mo and made it in such a way that all of the characters aren't martial artist experts was pretty cool. Dude just needs someone who can coral his ridiculous shit like how Lucas had some friends who were brave enough to tell him he's a retard way back when they were making the original Star Wars.

Popularity. His adaptations are broadly popular, so imageboard edgelords who rightly hate normalfaggots think they have to hate his movies too. Anything that gets too popular gets hated here, regardless of its actual quality.

Man of Steel was not great but it was pretty good.

 No.1031877

I'll defend 300, and even Watchmen for the most part. They're well made, and enjoyable, if not quite as good as the comics.

I haven't seen his DC work, but I can't say I think very highly of making everything grey and cranking the edge up to eleven, especially if you're making a Superman movie.
