I would say it was a result of multiple writers throwing around too many ideas…. but that was all written by Snyder. So it's just his bad writing. As far as I can assume, this is all gonna tie back into the 'Three Jokers' story they've been teasing.

Snyder's retarded mythology and writing didn't mix well with Batman comics so all other writers rightfully ditched it.

Mind you Snyder isn't complete trash, some ideas were actually good and made more sense than what Moore did or what the originals did but it was missing enough and added so much pointless garbage it was bad enough for writers to willingly follow it in DC. Or that's my opinion at least.

Serious question: do comics have editors in charge of continuity anymore?

I think all of these contradictions are caused by them only planning one story arc at a time. When they did the thing with Harley in the old Red Hood costume, Zero Year wasn't out yet, it probably wasn't even being written. Same thing with the Lazarus pit. I believe it was just a case of many ideas being added on top of each other with no real plan.

I think it's a bit of a shame. While Snyder's run got worse and worse with each story arc, I think they were overall still well-written stories. For example, Death of the Family had great atmosphere despite being retarded. I think Snyder just needs a proper editor to reign him in. Kinda like the other Snyder needs a good, hands-on producer.

Comic editors mostly exist to run scripts through spell check (grammar be damned), make sure an artist receives said script, and try to push their own ideas into comics (in some cases only hiring people who will run with their ideas). They don't reign anyone in, they don't care about continuity, they just want to pretend they're creative and have a tiny power trip for shit money.

Red Hood being a more direct criminal and a precursor to the Joker. Ideally the Joker's wife would have died and he would have become a criminal out of spite before hand with nothing left to look forward to in life. A mix of Moore and Synder's to frame him as a clear villain while keeping the crux of his emotional trauma there who evolved with Batman as Bruce did.

I liked many ideas in the New 52 Batman run, even the ridiculous ones (Batman owning a glove with shrinked suns embedded in its knuckles, which he uses to punch Superman). Even Gordon-Batman.

But I really have to disagree with the "made more sense" thing. To me, it was all utter nonsense but entertaining.

Speaking of gloves, I've recently read Batman Metal and they downright ripped the Infinity Glove off with Batman's Kryptonite glove.

I prefer unstoppable monster Joker, but it depends on the story. I'm perfectly fine with both versions as long as whatever he does is diabolical and entertaining and kinda funny in some ways. Despite the edge, when Joker revealed that he already went through with his plan before Batman arrives in Death of the Family, it was kinda funny to me. Joker saying as a joke that he sleeps under Gordon's bed but then it turns out he actually does was also funny. It's a mixed bag to me.

I fully agree though that he always seems to win in the end these days. And the thing is, the edgier he gets, the less fun it is what he does, the less relatable Batman is for not stopping him for good and the less you want him to get away in the end.

Like… what threw The Batman Who Laughs more over the edge than Earth 0 Batman after all the shit he did in e.g. Endgame?

The Batman Who Laughs is a Batman that was infected with some kind of Joker Venom after killing Joker because Joker was basically recreating the Wayne's murders in an endless line of people. From there the Joker Venom/Gas warps that Batman's mind till he basically becomes just as edgy as that Joker with all the Gary Stu power of Batman.
