What are your hopes for the resurrection of Harvey Birdman, /co/?

I for one am a little disappointed that it's going to be fully animated instead of the awkward, disjointed yet somehow incredibly aesthetic animation seen in the first season and in other shows like Sealab 2021

The original series got some nice incorrect running jokes. Gigi, being an out of control nympho that got married with 4 guys at the same time, birdgirl marrying her own father, mocking indias and indias (the red dot kind). Mocking homos, etc. etc. etc.

With Colbert onboard all of that is going out the door.

This sums it up, but those jokes did happen when Colbert was on the show (Sebben and Reducto)

Thing is he changed a whole lot, including his agenda, and in the original show he did impose some decisions, after all he/his actions did some notable changes to the script

Sebben dies because Colbert got the Colbert Report gig, and returns from the dead for the ending after he asked/got a recess in his show

This obviously impacts Birdman's ending directly, which might or might've not been the same, along with the 2 (or 3) episode arc of Sebben's death and Birdgirl being CEO

tl;dr Dude can move a couple things, and maybe he did have a part in the revival decision (but that's just speculation)

We probably shouldn't gotten this thing

The series was far from poorly animated or disjointed. But I did prefer the animation and writing style from the pilot. It felt more true to Hanna Barbera's visual and writing style and the characterizations weren't overly exaggerated. The show afterwards felt more like a parody of the pilot with over-reliance on random/nonsensical humor. I still enjoyed the show but I would've gladly preferred it if it had been the same as the pilot.

Also I'm not looking forward to this special. I'm honestly sick of reboots, remakes and revivals. The only media that deserves shit like that are ones that ended on cliffhangers. Like Samurai Jack, Pirates of Dark Water, the 2000s He-Man cartoon, etc.

If Colbert is serving as a major contributor/investor/producer, he'll have a lot of pull, and if that turns out to be the case, he'll only due to it to bring up some unnecessary commentary about modern politics and Trump like so many other recent revivals have done. Just keep it out of the media unless its for the sole intention of being entertaining rather than as some kind of forced preaching.

It can have jabs and comical comparisons if need be much like several episodes in the series that cover this, but a special that basically just comes off as borderline propaganda is unnecessary. If this special was all about being anti-Obama, anti-Bush or anti-Clinton, it would still be irksome and preachy.

Saw it. Thoughts:

To describe it as "Trump bashing" is brainlet tier. Very little of it has anything to do with anything related to Trump.

The special is weird, in a good way. It drops you in expecting you know all about Harvey Birdman and feels like an inside joke they've spent ten years dreaming up. For example, there's a musical number with Phil and Reducto. There are points where you have no idea what's going on, and I think that was the intention.

Harvey Birdman having died turns out to be a part of the plot.

They got the original guy to do a new version of the intro song, and it's terrible.

Gary Cole sounds exactly the same as he does in the series. Colbert has gotten a little higher pitched in his delivery, and Paget Brewster sounds a bit too womanly for Birdgirl

Peanut is in it, with voice lines.

X the Eliminator is also in it, and Peter MacNicol still has it.

It's really hard to put a rating on it. It's both Harvey Birdman and it's own thing. So I'm going to go with "it wasn't what I was expecting."
