No you dont, you know why, its a video game adaptation not some historical bullshit fiction. They didn't have to go this path considering the belmonts are usually called upon by the church itself to fuck vampires up (the good games of course), no village worried about getting arrested for talking about chemistry, no useless subplot about church corruption, again no bullshit reasons to shove reddit science in a story of hunting down the vampire. Nothing wrong telling a reason why Dracula is the way he is, but if you're just going to ignore everything set up by the games and instead inject unnecessary historical bullshit in a series where people just want guts and gore, you've fucked up.

Castlevania is its own beast on the Drac mythos. Mainly because it is a bunch of Japanese nerds that sperged out on Western shit, and put their own spin on it. It isn't a retelling of Vlad the Impaler, and his fight against the Ottomans. It isn't Bram Stoker's Dracula. The reason why people even care about Trevor Belmont or Alucard are because of the Castlevania lore and games. People are pissed off at the extreme bent against the church, and perpetuating the bullshit that all Christians were exactly alike, across all of Europe, from 600-1600. The anti-science angle is its own particular load of hogwash when you actually start to look at how Europe was in its own arms race, and actively promoted advancement of the sciences before the Renaissance.

The problem is that this show is a really weird blend. It starts off with a of 19th anglo push of limited Wallachian knowledge, based primarily on the German stories, refluffed by the Japanese to make an incredible series of video games, now retold by another englishman for american audiences. At a certain point, it just needs to be treated like Berserk, and takes place in a not-Europe Europe, where nothing matters. Just enjoy the ride. The ride does need to meet a base level of fun though. When compared to every other American cartoon, Castlevania still is a masterpiece, which says more about every other "adult" aimed animation.

S2 fell flat compared to S1, despite them going full tilt on the Bat Family, and Flash Family. Oddly enough, still one of the best portrayals of Dick. Fuck the live action Titans. Now five years old, at least, until the revival.

Kind of view them as films first. The Arkham flicks are oddly appropriate, as they aren't that great, rely on being more R rated, but still enjoyable. Flashpoint is the last one I would say is great from start to finish.

Now that I think about it. Probably the best comparison. Introduced blood, and romance. Provided you were 4 when it ended, you would be an adult today, which means, yes, it was aimed at an adult audience. Went more for a season long story arc, season wasn't too long though. It also had its flaws. I would actually need to rewatch both Samurai Jack S5, and Castlevania to see which one holds up better.

I think a large problem was in my mind, I only really compared Castlevania to Berserk, or Hellsing. Kind of need that modern uber violence, blood, and adult rating.

Does it matter if the games were mainly that? Going scenes upon scenes with no dialogue or no other meaningful characters to develop Belmont or make him interesting is a moronic idea. It's an adaption of the game series, not a game itself. There's going to be changes.
