Econfag here.
Putting all the e-celeb moralfaggotry aside, Oaxis is trying to compete in an industry rigged against new players like it. An important question that needs to be raised is where Oaxis Entertainment is going to get the capital to fund the production of its content. If it's gonna have this huge catalog of family-friendly content, how is it gonna fund any of it on a subscription-based business model? Even if every single one of Butch Hartman's 777,697 subscribers subscribed to Oaxis for $9.99 a month, it would only be able to profit $7,769,193, which, when reinvested back into the production of every single piece of content it has, is breadcrumbs, and nowhere near enough to fund quality content. This means that the vast overwhelming majority of Oaxis content can only be unremarkable trash.
Even Netflix, with all its clout and the millions of dollars in cheap credit they've been getting, is struggling to make quality content that returns on their investments. Their catalog can only be unremarkable trash too because their business model can't maximize profit to use as a high amount of capital. But they at least have the advantage of acquiring the distribution rights of famous shows and movies. What does Oaxis have? Absolutely nothing. and the fact that it's implementing byzantine television standards and practices for their content is only going to hold it back and give consumers all the less reason to subscribe to it in favor of other subscription services that go the extra mile.
All in all, Oaxis is not economically feasible long-term. Subscriptions is a very restrictive business model. And Butch will have to face the music when his subscription service goes down the shitter and files for bankruptcy.

His point is half wrong half valid. Someone who did work in the field has obligatory more value that the neet who spergs on AMBs. The thing with a work of art like animated cartoons is that everyone gets to have a taste of not only the art itself but the scenario, saying that people can't criticize the media is like saying that people can't say that they like or do not like the new samurai jack.

The difference is that Nintendo, like other game developers, have the sustainable business model of selling their games directly to their consumers, and expanded their market worldwide. We're back to the questions of where Butch is going to get the capital to produce good content. Butch doesn't have the capital to make quality shows, regardless of his credentials, and Oaxis is going to have a hard time funding such content when it can only profit so little.
>>1011282
High production costs are paramount in the quality of content. While they may not be everything that guarantees quality, they allow creators more freedom to realize their creative visions to their fullest potential. It's nearly impossible to make a quality cartoon on a low budget. You can't hire experienced staff or animate the show with an appealing, yet expensive art style. You become very limited in what you can do. There are some exceptions, but there's only so much an experienced creator can do when he has so little to work with.

I disagree. Define quality animation. Define low budget.
Even gratis animation on youtube have better quality than modern animation like lets say Steven universe. It's not of course 50 episodes of 20 minutes but hell I'll prefer a 5 or even 2 minutes well done short than wasting 24 hours of my life watching garbage like SU.
>You can't hire experienced staff or animate the show with an appealing, yet expensive art style.
This is true but when you are experienced YOU KNOW PEOPLE you made friends you have relations that will help you to achieve an objective.
No.1011299
>>1011287
>I disagree. Define quality animation. Define low budget.
All High-quality animation looks appealing, feels "real", and serves to advance the story effectively. A good example would be a fight scene that communicates the combatants', personalities, motives, and relationships, without either of them uttering a word, by conveying this information to the audience through animating it through the characters' actions. If the animation looked ugly and incompetently-made, the messages would be poorly conveyed to the audience and they would lose interest or feel repulsed by what they're seeing.
Animation is a tedious and expensive process, it costs 1-5000 dollars for one minute of animation, and that's only if the art style looks simple enough to animate. The cost scales up with the complexity of the art style. Nobody wants to be paid less than their profession's market price, especially when others can pay them more. It's not greed, it's supply and demand. As for web animators, their works are passion projects, and they spend several months working on good-looking less-than 10 minute long shorts. Again, the cost of scaling up is the reason you don't see shows with the art styles of your favorite web animations.
>This is true but when you are experienced YOU KNOW PEOPLE you made friends you have relations that will help you to achieve an objective.
Once again, no one wants to paid less than what they're worth. Butch may know experienced people in the industry, but it won't matter if he can't pay them what they're worth. Now, if their goal is to make something along the lines of Butch's previous two shows, which were cheap and unremarkable in every aspect from art style to writing. Fine. They can pull it off. But if we're talking about something innovative and groundbreaking like Motorcity, or Avatar: The Last Airbender, which costed around a million dollars to make per episode. Good luck. Those shows were great because they had the capital to pay experienced creatives what they were worth, and those creatives delivered. But Butch and his team doesn't have that much capital to make anything groundbreaking, so what they can make will most likely be shittier than Netflix's catalog of animation and be even more forgettable.

If he was saying "You don't know what you're talking about. That's not how making cartoons works" that would be a different matter. Cartoons are hard to make and executive/corporate involvement can drastically alter how a show turns out. However, that's not what he's saying here. He's saying anyone who hasn't "done something" like he has can question or criticize his work, as if he's a peak auteur at the top of his game, rubbing elbows with the elites of the animation industry.
