The storyboarderswriters want it both ways. They want big shonen style lore and characters that go through """dramatic arcs""" taking place in their cutesy slice-of-life shojo anime where little happens and anything that does is cast aside to protect the status quo. Someone called it "the girliest show he's ever seen" and he's right- Becky herself wanted there to be no true villains, "only people with other points of view," and emphasis on feelings and relationships. That could be fine for the slice-of-life shit it wanted to do early on, but not for the dramatic pseudo-space-opera it's trying to be now. They wasted too much time on unlikable bullshit townies. Now, they're trying to cram as many plot points into an episode as possible at the cost of tension. It doesn't help that Becky has her storyboarders write episodes however they want. Obviously this is fine for episodic stuff, but not for anything with an overarching storyline. I don't know whether they're pissed at CN for leaking so many episodes, or CN's so pissed off at them for wasting time (hence why they're leaking so much in the first place) that they gave them the ultimatum of "get off your fat fucking asses or we're firing you." However, it's too little too late, and now the promises they've made over 5 seasons are coming up empty.
Basically, the show is boring because it's made by boring people who'd rather do Ruby and Sapphire making out than anything interesting.
