Truly, still, the whole show is meme shit for keks, what will be really redditor is when they start to fanfic the deep lore of it.

Putting this back to back with the shitty new FLCL? It's like they're trying to kill the block. I loved the show, but I really don't think it's going to click with Toonami's audience. Especially since the second half of each episode is just a repeat of the first half with different voice actors.

I saw the new FLCL, and its average.

It will probably become new Deadpool or Rick and Morty.

>>1002874

At least there will some good music out of it.

I never understood the love for FLCL even when I was in the demographic for it. It always seemed at best "average" and at worst meandering and pointless. Maybe that was the "point" but if so it was a pretty boring point to make. So hearing that the new show is at best average really doesn't surprise me one bit.

FLCL is a good show, is not smart but is smartly made and thematically smart.

Is a slice of life made in order to not be predictable nor boring and a prime example of show don't tell with good visuals.

The story it tells is fine and definitely more refined than in the manga, I was pretty satisfied with the ending so I didn't bother on the new series but I might check it out.

Though I'm afraid it washes out the good taste the original leave in my mind.

Probably?

Is not a pretentious as R&M or has shit humor like Deadpool, is one of those cases you can blame the fandom entirely.

That's fair I suppose. I guess it's just not my cup of tea at the end of the day.

>It will probably become new Deadpool or Rick and Morty.

I doubt it. Toonami's viewership is shrinking by the week, and most of the people who watch it are just in it for the shonen. I remember when Jojo was first announced everyone was afraid it would cause a huge wave of kids vomiting Jojo memes. That didn't end up happening (at least no more than it was before it started airing) and I don't think the show did as well as they hoped. I would like to know what goes on behind the scenes of Toonami and what's the logic with some of their decisions. They waited way too long to get MHA, which people were excited about when it was first airing, and then they get Black Clover only a few weeks after it first started, which people have been lukewarm to at best. I can't tell if they're just out of touch. the companies are playing hard ball, or both.

>>1002920

I wouldn't bother with it. Outside of the music, it's really subpar. There doesn't feel like there's any passion. With the original, you could tell it was being made by people who wanted to do something fun to blow off steam after making End of Evangelion. This feels like it's being made by amateurs who are only doing it because Adult Swim wanted it and is fronting the bill.

>I can't tell if they're just out of touch. the companies are playing hard ball, or both.

Probably both, but out of touch probably has more to do with it. Adult Swim continues to waste its money on things like FLCL 2, underfunds or cancels successful shows, and so on.

Occasionally they do get lucky, like they did with Rick and Morty and Space Dandy. Then they will also make a good decision once in a blue moon, like they did with Samurai Jack or 12 oz mouse revival. I just hope that it, Venture Bros, Genndy's project, Harvey Birdman, and won't be shit.

You're pretty much on point. FLCL was made when almost evreyone in Gainax were Otaku from the 80's that tried to make anime for otaku, ingraining their passion into things.

nowadays it's nu-gainax, evreyone who was there back in it's glory days are now gone and went on to make their own things like Kill la Kill.

I actually don't think much bad will come of it since most of the attention the show got was during it's initial airing.

>>1002874

I disagree. FLCL is absolute trash that's only still liked nowadays because nostalgia. Haruko is a mary sue who physically and mentally abuses a little boy and nearly got everyone on earth killed and gets away with it, and the one guy who sees that she's a fucking terrible person is made to be a whiny pathetic faggot. The only good things about this show are the animation and the length.

>>1002888 (Checked.)

>The Pillows' music is good.

I honestly can't fathom how people can listen to their music and find it enjoyable. It sounds like every fucking shitty hipster garage band ever, only it's in japanese.

>>1002920

FLCL is smart in the same way that Hunchback 2 is smart.

>In the beginning, he likes SWEET drinks and hates BITTER drinks

>But by the end, he likes BITTER drinks and rejects SWEET drinks

>It's a METAPHOR, you see. It represents his maturation over the course of the series after being abused by a space whore!

<AREN'T WE FUCKING CLEVER?!

I'm in no way interested in watching more of that. I guess I'm kind of glad that people who like the original can find some enjoyment out of it, but I just can't stand this fucking show and the pretentiousness of both it and most of it's fans.

>anime based of a shitpost 4koma gets picked up by (((Funimation)))

Actually, no. It was picked up by Sentai Filmworks too. Unlike a lot of anime, Popteamepic has something like an open, non-exclusive license where if you pay the fee, you get the license. Which means if you've got the money, you can license it and make a dub of your own.

The fuck? Naota dislikes sour and bitter drinks, and he adds "too carbonated" to that list at the end. There's nothing about him finally liking sour or bitter drinks.

 No.1003244

Hasn't Toonami always been a vehicle to push anime in the west, even when it had started? DBZ, Sailor Moon, Outlaw Star, and others put on the program block helped popularize anime in America, despite also having the shows you have named on there.

But eventually, only anime had been aired on the program, so it became known primarily as an Anime program block.

 No.1003245

As an addendum, the revamped Toonami also had reruns of Sym Bionic Titan and Samurai Jack on their line up as well, so it wasn't ALL anime all the time.

Watched the subs before. It was okay but not that amazing. Some jokes were hilarious while others were not funny. Made worst when they made more skits out of the unfunny ones instead of doing more off-the-wall originals segments. I think the gimmick of replaying the same 12 minute show into a 24 minute show with different voice actors could have worked, if they did more to change up the dialogue. A lot of the early episodes barely did it which made the male gruff Japanese voice actors funnier compared to their female counterparts 8 out of 10 times. They fix this later in the following episodes but some don't change that much other than being a different voice over. Surface level references I think most will get if you know anime or general humor but i don't think they'll get the voice actor specific ones since they are very Japanese centric and I guess they'll be showing the dubbed version on Toonami insteado f subs.

I think I want to go back and rewatch Super Milk Chan though. Maybe it aged better than I think it has.

Oh yeah, I remember now they used to do marathons of the godzilla movies as well.

 No.1004366

>>1003244

when toonami started it was old ass action cartoons like herculoids, those 40's superman serials (which did have awesome animation), johnny quest, etc. toonami didn't start airing sailor moon and dbz until like late 98.
