Sup guys. I would like to get my sister some coffee for Christmas. I don't drink a lot of it myself so I am not the best judge of quality. I have heard of the site Driftaway coffee, but do not know if it is any good. Do you guys have any recommendations of good quality coffee I can get my sister for Christmas?

 No.8273

Last couple times I ordered coffee I got it through these guys http://www.gocoffeego.com/ they haven't steered me wrong yet.

Dunno what your sister likes, I'd recommend maybe something lightly roasted. PT's Coffee does a few I like. Would need to know more to go any further than that.

I have had excellent luck with Red Bird.

http://redbirdcoffee.com/

Their standard espresso blend ("Red Bird Espresso") is extremely good, and priced well below competitor's coffees of similar quality.

That said, good coffee is a waste if she doesn't have a grinder and knows what she's doing, and if she knows what she is doing, she may well know that roasted coffee goes stale in 2 weeks, and ground coffee goes stale in 15 minutes… so she might prefer a gift card for the coffee, so it doesn't go stale.

If she's not a snob, she may just want the peppermint flavored holiday blend crap from the mall. Or the caramel stuff.

What kind of coffee beverages does she make?

My taste is classic. I don't like fruity mud coffee that is typically found in hipster coffee shops.

If she is into espresso, I like Danesi Classic.

If moka pot, Lavazza Qualita Oro.

If drip coffee or any other methods, I have no idea because I don't make those.

If she has the required coffeemaker then these are quite fun: http://www.amazon.com/Nescafe-Dolce-Gusto-Coffee-Sampler/dp/B00KB9PDKC

The coffee Noma uses (voted best restaurant in the world several times over) is quite expensive but not completely unaffordable (15 Euro-ish for 1/4 kilo): https://timwendelboe.no/coffee

what is fruity mud coffee?

I am not the poster of 8291, but…

Some of the more exotic coffees naturally don't taste like "coffee" - there is a distinctive fruity flavor. Blueberries, cherries, etc. This is not because they add flavoring to it, the coffee bean just grows naturally and has that flavor.

IMO, coffee should taste like COFFEE. If I wanted to drink hot blueberry juice, I would.

having distinct hints of berry and fruit isn't necessarily bad, and I might enjoy that from time to time, but standard "coffee" taste is my go to, for sure.

But those fruity coffees do taste like coffee. Coffee beans are the pits of berries, that fruity taste is expected.
