Bane?

Hello /bane/. I would like to share my interpretation of the Plane Scene.

It seems that all of the big and most important characters are associated with their own aircraft

- CIA and the Wreckage Brother

- Bane and the Big Plane

I wondered why Masketta would identify Bane as the Alpha male and not CIA. Masketta has known CIA for a long time as evidenced by the lack of greeting or introduction to each other, except when CIA identifies himself to Dr. Pavel. When Masketta speaks with CIA, pay attention to their body language and eye contact. Before meeting Dr. Pavel, CIA tenses himself and takes on a power stance to impose a formidable impression on us. When they meet, CIA relaxes himself from the stance and acts in a friendly manner, even joking to the nervous Dr. Pavel that he “[doesn’t] get to bring friends.”

Now the following details will explain the betrayal and tragedy of CIA and our worship of the necessary evil that is Bane.

CIA also hands Masketta a briefcase detailing his flight plan in the event that it fails so that Masketta can aid him when he “calls it in.” This briefcase represents trust, friendship, and the future of their relationship and life plans. However, help never came and instead 4 masked men fired into the plane, killing everyone onboard as Bane crashed CIA’s plane “with no survivors.”

So why did Masketta switch to Bane’s side? Because he himself could never see himself flying in a plane, or metaphorically speaking he could never experience power and authority that he desires over the world below and the skies, at least not with CIA’s vision for the future. Deep down inside, Masketta sensed that CIA’s plan and influence would never succeed, and so he joins Bane’s master plan because only then can he fulfill his desires.

Spoilers: If you’ve watched the Post-Credits scene, Masketta accompanies Bane and is given power, money, and arms. However, he never leaves the surface but rather descends into the lower levels of hell or Socrates’ Cave as represented by the sewer incident. He never rises above his reality, and while his head literally and psychically remains cool during the winter, inside his emotions become hot-headed when he reflects on the demise of his friend CIA
