The thing with youtube covers is that 5 people will play one part 5 different ways.
Though he's playing the first part correctly, he completely dipped on the second part.
And it's true, you don't move your hand a lot, but the phrasing of the riff means you have to a lot of lifting your fingers. It's awkward.
In the same way that an object A can be heavier than object B, but still easier to lift because of object B's geometric shape, this riff destroys your hand even though shredding for extended periods of time wouldn't be a problem.
As a relevant example, the riff starting at 2:19 is easier on your hand than the 0:52 one. I have literally less trouble playing that. I'll record some samples tomorrow or something.

I listen to plenty of instrumental tracks, and to be honest. lyricism is like frosting. It's a sufficient dimension in music, but not a necessary one. It can make or break a song, or be completely superfluous. Really depends on what you're trying to do with it.
